Depeche Mode - "Memento Mori" - new album and tour
The new album is called "Memento Mori" ("Remember that you are going to die" in Latin) set to be released Spring of 2023. The tour kicks off with arena dates in North America (New York, Toronto and Los Angeles amongst others) followed by stadium dates in UK/Europe over the Summer.

Very few US dates. I assume they will be coming back again after they hit Europe, for a more extensive run.

Well this was "meh". A fan online said it best. "I'm really hoping that what will probably be their last album would be a return to form. Sadly, from what we heard there, I fear we're in for another generic, bland colon-dump of an album with about as much edge as a Billiard Ball. I found it extremely ironic when Dave answered the "Unplugged" question with "We can't as we're an electronic band".. he's been pushing the "Rock" since forever and encouraging Eigner to wipe his signature "musical" bum-stain all over the classic tracks.

I prefer them using the synthesizers which might sound crazy to some music fans but that is when they are their best.
I am a sucker and will buy it and listen to it once so I can have the complete discography.

I’ll always welcome new DM although they haven’t done anything that’s really clicked with me since Playing the Angel. The more synths the better.

Ticket prices have $1200 or less in most cities for this tour. Grabbing hands indeed.

Yea, I looked at tickets for MSG out of curiosity and the prices are ridiculous. I’m going to be in Europe next week and saw The Cure are going to in Vienna when I will be there. Only €88 with fees.

Buddy of mine has heard the whole album and said this morning it's not "guitar bluesy" at all, has plenty of drum machines and a couple songs are almost 'Kraftwerk-y'.
And he said there's a few uptempo tunes also. We'll see.

If you envisioned Enjoy the Silence as a dance song.
Maybe the youngsters will check out the original now?

Re: Depeche Mode - "Memento Mori" - new album and tour
The album leaked yesterday (3/21) around 3:00 AM PST. I woke up and found the link in a Facebook private message from a friend on the west coast. I'm not sure if the Admins will allow me to post the dropbox link. So send me a message if you want it. Overall, I wasn't blown away. Is it terrible? No. Is it better than "Spirit"? Hell yes. I like three of the songs. The rest I was completely underwhelmed by. Of course the DMC (Depeche Mode Cult) are saying this is up there "Music for the Masses" and "Violator". Hogwash. I honestly could not pick out another track for a second single. None are strong enough IMO. But I will say this, the album works best listening to it from start to finish. My overall rating 6/10.

Definitely my favorite since Ultra. I like Playing the Angel a lot, but think this new one is a stronger overall record.

This album is definitely growing on me. A lot. And I hate comparing because I love both "Ultra" and "Playing the Angel" almost equally. But this is right up there with both.

Re: Depeche Mode - "Memento Mori" - new album and tour
A good friend of mine who is a hardcore fan went to see their concert in Vegas last week. He sent me this:
So here's my thoughts on the show. I'll break it into old songs, new songs and general feelings.
Old Songs:
Most were a rehash of the Spirit Tour versions with JTR, Waiting for The Night and Sister of Night being the only real new songs, the latter finally full band with Dave singing. That being said, while a welcome edition, I don't think Dave's singing was particularly strong during SON. WFTN was the nice duet on the catwalk and JTR was a decent addition but it's not my favorite PTA track. And enough with the Lu Cont version of APTIUT. In general, most of the tracks just aren't doing it for me anymore given we hear them year after year and even this time around something was missing.
New Songs:
They played 5 and really only Soul With Me (acoustic) and GA worked. The latter was a bit thin overall and needed the beefier sound (no Christian) from the session the band recently shared. MCIM and Wagging Tongue were not a solid 1-2 for openers, both being my least favorite tracks on the album. Speak to Me didn't work for me as well live either. My wife turned to me and said, "that was terrible" and while I'm not that harsh, it's wasn't very strong IMO. There was no way Dave wasn't going to let it not be in the set though. Don't Say You Love Me and Never Let Me Go would have been far better tracks personally and anything for an opener would have been better than MCIM...just a bunch of noise. My 5 would have been GA, Never Let Me Down, Don't Say You Love Me, Soul With Me (Acoustic) and Before We Drown.
Dave's vocals were off to my ears. Out of tune-ish at times, often not as good as I'm used to hearing from him.
Christian...just stop already. Literally every song had some weird ad lib fill where he appeared to lose the original beat an had to catch up. I know they'll never get rid of him but man, does he do serious damage to some of the tracks. You can hear how much better GA is in the studio session without him...just the drums on tape.
While I know it's a pipe dream, the band really needs to start the setlist discussion from a fairly blank slate instead of just pressing the easy button and repeating the same tracks over and over. The only tracks that have to be in there at this point are NLMDA, PJ and ETS. Everything else is fair game but for christ's sake, step out of the comfort zone and really try something new. I can't imagine how some in the fanbase have sat through 3-4 shows already and some will attend many more. If I had tix for a second show on this leg, I would have put them up for sale pretty quickly after this show.

Always You is the best song and should have been the first single
I like People are Good and the sick synth beats on that
I will have to listen to the first half more but still miss Wilder.
It seems their music was a lot heaver and more melodic when he was in the band.
