Re: Record Store Day 2022
If that Ramones box is only $150, I might consider picking it up. I don't have any of the 80s Ramones albums, so this is a good deal.
My Ramones albums are limited to Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia, Road to Ruin, and End of the Century on vinyl; and Ramonesmania and the Weird Tales of the Ramones boxed set on CD.
Their best period, for me, was the 1970s, and I was content to have everything notable after that on Ramonesmania and Weird Tales.
I didn't have this on my list to my record store owner, but he likes the Ramones and always orders extra on them. Just need to be there early since this is a box, and he probably didn't order too heavily on it.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
Of course the one RSD release I want is only in the UK, so I have to wait till the end of the day, and hopefully be lucky enough that a store that has an online shop puts up their unsold RSD records for sale on their site and ships to the US without an exorbitant fee.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
The only reason I'm not 100% on that Ramones set (other than the price of course...it's a fair price, but still a lot of money for a record) is because I was able to get Too Tough to Die on vinyl last year for around $35. That's easily the best of their 80s output, and the only one I'd put next to their 70s records. As for the rest of the set, there's good songs here and there, but overall you could condense the entire good 80s Ramones (besides Too Tough) into one record. Maybe a 2-disc set, but that would be pushing it.

By the way, to further illustrate the viability of the brick-and-mortar record store, one of my favorites, Reanimated Records, just leased the next door space, tore down the wall between them, and has doubled their floor.

Oof. $200, and I didn't even get the Ramones set. Apparently no one wanted punk and power pop today, because I bought the first copies of the Muffs, Stiff Little Fingers, and Replacemats records according to the owner, and I didn't even get in the store till two and a half hours after they opened. Got those records, plus The Knack, and two impulse buys of Ryan Hamilton and The Rubinoos

Got America's Greatest Hits album and the Alice In Chains EP. A lot more was available but not exactly in my price range. I also showed up a little later than usual but that's because yesterday I woke up with a 101 degree temperature

Re: Record Store Day 2022
Doing everything I can not to visit some stores today. One posted a "leftovers" video, and the Nick Lowe and Patti Smith records were still there.
Really happy with how every shook out yesterday. Even though I still had to wait a full hour outside the store to get in, at least I got to sleep in for a few more hours than if I arrive before opening, and I got ALL the records I wanted anyway. That's never happened before. Sometimes I'll get 3/4 or 3/5, necessitating a visit to another participating store, but this time it was everything in one stop. Done.

Ended up grabbing 2 - LA Guns and the latest Hillbillies in Hell comp which was a UK RSD only release.
The real find for me on Sat was a clean OG UK press of Houses of the Holy.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
I've so far only pulled the shrink wrap off two records, but I gotta say the Muffs' record is a real winner. I wasn't sure what to expect with it, since it was labeled as "Kim Shattuck demos", so I was kinda expecting just bedroom recordings or something. But according to the liner notes by bassist Ronnie Barnett, Kim was a real stickler for perfection even on solo recordings. These were studio recordings played to "Frankensteined" drum tracks from Roy McDonald, and I think Kim did all the instrumentation herself. To the point that Barnett and McDonald frequently asked her "What do you need US for then?". In other words, these aren't scraped up boom-box recordings to ransack the Glendale grave of Ms. Shattuck, but they're legitimate archives of a talented musician (although she was such a perfectionist she'd probably despise them being released, but hey, I wanna hear anything and everything she recorded)

All I ended up getting was the Alice In Chains 12" and Foo Fighters 7". I picked up the Ramones box and looked at it, but couldn't justify spending $155 on it.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
I feel the same way (can't justify $150 for a Ramones set) yet had no problem walking up to the counter with $190 worth of other records in my hands. Something about it being six different artists instead of just one.
This weekend I'm gonna go to the stores I couldn't hit on Saturday (which means pretty much everyone except M-Theory, and I'll probably go there again too anyway) and dig through the leftovers. If that Ramones set is still around, I'll probably take it home.

Visited a few stores for leftovers today, and got Nick Lowe's Wireless World, a mashup of the UK release Jesus of Cool and the US Pure Pop for Now People (the record was released with different tracks in the UK and US, this combines ALL the tracks into one release)

I used to enjoy RSD but flippers have all but made is unpleasant.
These people waiting outside starting before the sun comes up and just snagging everything to put online and sell.
I don't even bother anymore because its just too much of a fight with these so-called "collectors" and "music/vinyl lovers"

Re: Record Store Day 2022
Yeah, one of the constant complaints I've heard is how people at the front of the line were buying the Taylor Swift record just to flip it, and that would pay for the rest of the records they DO want.
That said, my faith in RSD was renewed due to arriving so late and still getting all the records I wanted. Apparently I don't like the popular bands, and that's just fine with me as long as the stores keep carrying the artists anyway. In fact, 4/6 of the records I got were still available at some of the stores I visited this past weekend.
So just become a fan of old-school punk and you'll get all the RSD stuff you want.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
Oh, and I should also add that in my shopping this weekend, one week later, I could have still gotten Patti Smith, Echo and the Bunnymen, Iggy Pop, and Pete Townshend's RSD exclusives, but I just couldn't swing it after dropping nearly $200 last weekend. But I sure held them all in my hand for a while thinking about it. So it's not exactly impossible to get good records on RSD, unless you're only looking for the "hot" items like Taylor Swift or the Foo Fighters.

Re: Record Store Day 2022
Anyone take a bite on the "second drop"?
I was busy all day yesterday, and really didn't need anything from the drop. Just The Sweet, and I figured it would be gone by the time I got to any stores. I hit up a few today, and like I thought, no Sweet. Also no Suzi Quatro, but I wasn't 100% I wanted that anyway. Couple of stores had the Studio One ska and reggae samplers, but a little too pricey for me. Then at Vinyl Junkies, I saw it: The Ramones box set. Cursing myself, because I just did a check of my finances and see I'm spending way too much money lately and need to rein it in a little.
But I got it anyway.
