Coldplay - Music of the Spheres

They're back, and worse than ever.

I really dislike this song and their cynical "borrowing" of the catchy "Take On Me" soundbite.

What happened to the band!??? UGH. Truly horrible. People are truly gushing over it though in the comments section of the clip. No thank you. I'll stick with their first two albums.

Man, do any bands actually play drums in pop music anymore? The drummer is mimicking playing when a drum machine is obviously used.

Their new song is not perfect but not that bad after a couple of listens

Maybe they will promote this more than Everyday Life.

Re: Coldplay - Music of the Spheres

Wow. Just tried to listen to Higher Power, the buildup was interesting but then once it broke open it just fell into crap.

I've come to realize they don't make good music on their own, but they make great music for covers/remixes.

This one lives in my iPhone:

Re: Coldplay - Music of the Spheres

I like the original Clocks about 100x more than that remix.

I used to really love this band but they really lost their way after Viva La Vida (which I will go to grave swearing is a phenomenal song, plagiarism or not). I kind of liked some of their next album, Milo Xyloto. Since that release however, I think the only song by them that I have liked is, going to your point, Something Just Like This, with The Chainsmokers ó I kind of hate myself for liking that track but I indeed do.

I like this from the Magic album though the video is goofy and not what I imagined when I listen to the song

Re: Coldplay - Music of the Spheres

I find most people become attracted to a band for ďtheir sound.Ē Typically you come back as you expect to hear refrain on what makes them them. Eventually though - do you tire of that and move on?

For Coldplay, I read or saw an interview where Chris said they actively try to do something different so they arenít doing the same thing over and over again. Thatís there perspective on their art, and I appreciate it. Doesnít mean I necessarily like all of their new content out of the gate though. What I do tend to find though, is at least 1-2 of their songs from newer albums sound catchy years later. Maybe the newer stuff takes some time to age?

The duet we have been waiting for.

I admit this is better than Viva La Vida which they play a million times in concert.

In hindsight, I would agree.

(On a rambling tangent).

The only reason I ever listened to X&Y numerous times, was that my cd copy was encoded with the "cactus data shield" extreme basketcase drm. The "cactus data shield" drm on purpose inserted erroneous bad data which deliberately triggered the cd player's error correction mechanism every two seconds. On a standalone audio cd player this wouldn't be obviously audible, while on a computer cd/dvd drive it would trip up the ripping program where it would be constantly doing re-reads.

https://patents.google.com/patent/US6425098B1/en
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cactus_Data_Shield

At the time, there was no easy way to get an error-free rip of "cactus data shield" encoded audio cd discs. I wrote my own computer cd ripper code in an attempt to get the most error-free rips of these drm infested "cactus data shield" audio cd discs. It turned out X&Y had a particularly nasty strain of "cactus data shield", which even today no current recently manufactured computer cd/dvd drive is able to read properly.

Through this tedious process, I must have listened to the entire X&Y album over a few hundred times. In those days if I had purchased a drm-free cd copy of X&Y from a different jurisdiction, most likely I would have only listened to it once or twice.

In the end, I stopped buying new factory sealed Coldplay cds after Viva La Vida. I thought the "Viva la Vida" album was largely crap, that I didn't even bother buying the subsequent Prospekt's March cd.

Eventually a few years later I found and purchased a used cd copy of X&Y for $1 at a nearby goodwill, which was drm-free with no disc reading problems on the computer. EMI / Parlophone must have manufactured drm-free cd versions when they abandoned "cactus data shield" after the 2005 Sony/BMG cd rootkit scandal.

Re: Coldplay - Music of the Spheres

In the minority here but I think they got better with the Viva La Vida, Magic, and Mylo Xyloto and they had faster more uptempo songs.
