Though the same can be said for most bands with careers that span decades. I'm looking at you, The Cure!
Especially long lived bands where almost every song sounds the same, such as: AC DC, Motorhead, Cannibal Corpse, The Exploited, etc ....

Album's certainly not as strong as their first 7 albums, but I think it's one of their better "reunion" albums, probably right behind Brave New World.
It does take a few spins to fully appreciate - I'm liking it the more I'm listening to it. And the vinyl sounds pretty good - "CB" (Chris Bellman) in the dead-wax is always a good sign!

It's hardly a fair comparison. Those three albums were when they were at peak creativity. They had just added Bruce, who kicked up the vocals to a whole other level, and they were developing a unique and powerful sound all their own, and exploring all sorts of interesting concepts lyrically.

I agree the new stuff is cookie cutter, but it's still a pretty tasty cookie. I'm sure the next tour will be them playing a lot of this along with newer stuff. If they tour again after this it'll be a farewell or legacy type tour again where they play all the hits.

This is exactly what makes it the perfect "muzak" background music for me where I don't want to be too distracted. The writing/playing style of modern iron maiden sounds very familiar to me, but I don't recognize most of the songs and they have no emotional / nostalgia meaning for me.

In contrast, I've found that listening to something that has a lot of emotional / nostalgic meaning for me (such as iron maiden's 80s albums), is very distracting. I end up hyper focusing all my attention on it.

The last Iron Maiden album I listened to a lot repeatedly which had a lot of emotional / nostalgic meaning for me, was Somewhere In Time. In contrast, I only ever listened to to "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" a few times after picking up the vinyl when it was first released back in the day. The latter had almost no replay value for me, while the former I was playing over and over again. (Back in the day, I also tried to transcribe many of the guitar riffs from Somewhere In TIme by ear. There was no Somewhere In Time guitar tab books at the time).

Oddly enough, I found the Blaze era albums more "listenable" than most of the other post-1988 stuff.

In an interview earlier this month, Bruce said next time they're on the road it'll be a continuation of the Legacy of the Beast Tour with 1 or 2 Senjutsu songs added.

Awesome. Hope I can make it to one of those shows. For as much as I enjoyed the Legacy show in 2019 I can easily think of a few songs they could drop in favor of new stuff.

Otherwise the rest of the album sounds like typical generic Iron Maiden songs, which are rather forgettable and just blend into one another whenever I play the cd in the backgrond at home.

Agreed on both point above. If you take most tracks since....what 2001 (Post Brave New World), I probably wouldn't be able to tell you which belongs to which album.

Re: Iron Maiden New Video/ Track - "The Writing On The Wall"

One "tangential maiden releated" album which I use to play over and over again back in the day, was the Samson remix album "Head Tactics" from 1986. This was during the time period before the original Samson albums were released on cd, and shortly after the original record company (GEM) that released "Head On" and "Shock Tactics" went under and the original albums were difficult to find. This "Head Tactics" album was most likely done to capitalize on Bruce Dickinson's peak mid-1980s popularity with Iron Maiden, where the band's name on the cover was "Samson Featuring Bruce Dickinson".

What I didn't know at the time was that this "Head Tactics" album was actually remixed to sound more like 'iron maiden'. It seems like the hardcore Samson / Maiden "purists" really hated this remixed album.

When I finally got the "Head On" and "Shock Tactics" albums when they were first released on cd, I realized they were a lot more raw and less "slick" sounding.

Decided to give the Blaze albums another listen to. (I haven't heard them in over a decade). Back in the day, I didn't think much of these albums.

Today, I now realize it sounds like Steve Harris writing more "progressive" sounding stuff and attempting to achieve "technical perfection" in the studio. Just short of a "robot" playing the instruments and a "computer" singing. Nevertheless, the writing was decent enough after stripping away all the layers of "technical perfection".

Perhaps Harris and the band's managers figured out they should be using a real producer (such as Kevin Shirley) to produce their subsequent albums (starting with "Brave New World"), so that things don't sound like a "robot / computer" playing under only Harris' sole oversight.

Too bad it isn't Trivium and Within Temptation on all dates.

That would be a hell of a night!

Looks like with the support bands Maiden have chosen we can spend more time in the bar before going in. No interest in seeing either one. Just my opinion but Maiden haven't had a decent support band since Dio and Motorhead.

Maybe they can do a Lemmy hologram to go with the Ronnie Dio hologram.

At least Kevin Shirley isn't producing it. It shouldn't sound like your speakers are at the bottom of a swimming pool three miles away.
