The voices of Geddy Lee and Fred Schneider are like nails on a chalkboard to me, but I wouldn't say Lee has a "bad" voice (although maybe he does now). It just doesn't work for me.

Courtney Love, if you can consider her a musician.

Easy one.

Hands down, Bernard Sumner of New Order. He's fortunate his band mates are talented af.

However iconic, Leon Russell has a unique and memorable, but strange singing voice. A Song For You is a damned good song but his vocals.....I dunno...

Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction/Porno for Pyros.

He always sounds like a bad 80s Sunset Strip hair metal band singer who walked into the wrong rehearsal room at the studio, and the band just kept him anyway.

Britney Spears but you probably have to blame auto tune or whatever sound device she uses for her voice.

There are quite a few musicians in here that are among my favorites, but I can see why some would find their voices grating.

I nominate Gordon Gano from Violent Femmes. Somehow it works in the context of the music though.

I'll take - songs I can sing with a cold - for $100, Alex.

I'm surprised there isn't an obligatory Vince Neil vote. And I love Motley Crue.

I saw this thread and immediately came here to mention Fred Schneider. I definitely wouldn't call him a singer. He's more of a novelty act. But he sucks. The only reason to listen to the B-52's are Ricky Wilson, Keith Strickland, Kate Pierson and the amazing Cindy Wilson. They were a great band and it's unfortunate they chose Fred to be their lead. About Bernard Sumner, I wouldn't say his voice is the worst. But it's definitely really weak. Truth be told, Ian Curtis wasn't all that great of a great singer either. But he sure was a great front man.

King definitely has a voice where there is no middle ground, you either love it or hate it (I've loved him since I was a teenager). But even if you are not a fan, you have to admit that at 63 years old he can still nail the falsettos in his songs when he performs live. On the other hand, I used to be able to sing along to his songs, but I am in my 50's and have a really tough time singing the falsetto parts now.

Howlin' Wolf has a strange voice that turns some people off.

And some singers who imitate him.

Jan Terri.

To be fair, it's not just her voice... every aspect of her music is simply terrible.

If we're going to bring amateurs into this, then it would be criminal to forget Tom Arico. Someone first posted this vocal equivalent of being stabbed with an icepick here many years ago, and I'll never forget how taken aback I was at its wretchedness. I can only hope it was meant to be a joke.
