Tool - Fear Inoculum - August 30, 2019 -- IT IS FINALLY HAPPENING
From their official site:
All right, moving forward. No matter how many new TOOL tunes are currently complete, I will personally guarantee that the new CD will be released on MAY 22, 2012 (or MAY 15, 2012)

Re: New Tool Album in 2012
It's about time something was announced. I mean, I know this is right on schedule for them and all, but it's felt like it's taken them forever to announce something this time.

Maynard has been busy with Puscifer and APC but the other guys have been putting things together in the meantime. This is great news.

I hope what edstein said was not exactly true. Tool's lyrical content has gone down since Maynard started APC...so his 'limited' musical involvement scares me.
Maynard used to always say (in the 90's) that his voice was as much an instrument as any of the others...so when that instrument shows up after everything else is written, it doesn't mesh as well.
Here's hoping to a really focused effort from my favorite group.

It's about time. T O O L is my favorite band and I've been "patient"ly waiting for the next album, which I'm sure will be amazing if Jones, Carey, and Chancellor have anything to do with it.

Re: New Tool Album in 2012
I was just wondering about this yesterday.
Sounds about right. Laggers. If they're gonna take this long, it better top 10,000 Days, which still amazes me more in packaging than in musical content.

Maynard has also said numerous times that the music comes first...then the lyrics....I remember reading way back when he also mentioned that he was the least important member of the band (or maybe I saw it on tv cause I think I remember one of the other band members looking at him like he was crazy for saying that).
Whatever though...I dug the lyrics a lot on 10,000 days.

As far as that new track, that recording of it is much better than I remember it sounding at the very show that was recorded at.

The videos of that song on YouTube have pretty bad quality. Hopefully we'll see it on iTunes or amazon soon. No new album has been planned. Same for Ashes Divide. Apparently these guys are so busy with multiple projects that they cant focus on one album and get it out to us.

Bummer APC isn't getting near here other than Lollapalooza.. and I'm not about to drop 150 to just see them. As for Tool. Hooray!

Tool Explain Why They Haven't Put Out a New Album Since 2006
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-2006-20140715
tl;dr version:
So yeah. More lawsuits. From what I remember, Lateralus took so long because of lawsuits as well.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...-2006-20140715
tl;dr version:
Initially, in 2007, a friend of Jones' claimed that he had created artwork for the group that he wanted credit. But the suit got complicated when an insurance company that Tool thought would defend it against lawsuits turned around and sued the band over technicalities regarding the case. The band then filed a countersuit to defend themselves against the insurer's claims and now, seven years later, Tool are still deeply mired in litigation with the insurer. The case is scheduled to go to trial in January.
