Radiohead ransomed by hacker, releases songs instead of giving in
From Jonny Greenwood...
"Hail to the thief" indeed...
That explains the huge OKC leak last week.
Good on them for not caving in though.
And I'm sure they'll generate more money for that charity than what the hacker was asking for.
And LOL at the subject line (Lebowski & OkC both came out in '98 as well)
You can listen to the whole thing here...

It's mostly early versions and rehearsal material, but it's also for one of my favorite albums of all time, so it's all good. There are a few tracks here and there, though rough they may be, are kinda like an in-between Bends/OkC type sound, which is a bit of a gold-mine, IMO.

While I am not a Radiohead fan to any great degree, I've heard there's a lot of interesting music and embryonic forms of familiar songs in the download. Worth exploring if you are a big fan.

I will wait for the 18 hours of Bono coughing, sneezing and farting to be released. Rolling Stone already has their 5/5 review written.

There was really no demand made to the band regarding the ransom. The $150K number is tossed around, but that was a value the leaker had mentioned to another collector regarding what he would want (based on $500 per studio track and $50 per live track?) and the leaker was never really serious about the collection of dollars anyways. He was trying to get other "rare" trades out of the collection, and another RH collector convinced him to leak it. So instead of losing out to a "Free" bootleg, Radiohead released it themselves, hoping enough fans would buy and the money goes to charity, instead of simply downloading the MP3s that the leaker released. I am friends with one of the people dragged into all this, Mr Hosarama.

I am hoping to see Thom Yorke in Toronto on September 29th.
If you have never seen Radiohead live then you do not know what an experience you are missing. I took my older brother to see them at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles back in 2007. He had never really heard their music before and he still tells me that it is one of the best concerts that he has ever attended. At last count, I have been to 15 of their shows. They never disappoint and actually sound better live than their recorded material.
