Vampire Weekend - Father of the Bride -- April 2019

Vampire Weekend have shared two new songs, “Harmony Hall” and “2021.” It’s the first we’re hearing from the band’s fourth album. After much speculation, the initials FOTB have been revealed to stand for Father Of The Bride.

In a Beats 1 interview, Koenig revealed that former member Rostam Batmanglij worked on “Harmony Hall” and one other song on the album, and Greg Leisz plays the guitar solo on “Harmony Hall.” The VW frontman also talked about how “2021” samples music that Japanese composer Haruomi Hosono made for Muji in the ’80s as background music for their stores. Ariel Rechtshaid co-produced both songs with Koenig.

Last week, Koenig took to Instagram to reveal plans for a double album — 18 songs, about 59 minutes long — that will be out in April. “Harmony Hall” and “2021” are the first in a trio of two-song drops. The other pair of pairs will be released in the coming months.

FOTB is the band’s first album since 2013’s Modern Vampires Of The City, and their first without the full-time participation of Batmanglij.

I liked their first two albums but never listened to their third. Kinda forgot about them.

Shit, that third album, Modern Vampires of the City is like my favorite album of recent years. I absolutely LOVE it.

Will have to listen to these tracks at lunch today when I get a moment. Excited for the new album

Okay I frigging love Harmony Hall. That is a SOLID song.
2021 is just a throwaway track.

Agree 100%. I've played Harmony Hall a lot already. Loving that song.

Way more laid back, but Harmony Hall is absolutely great. I hope the majority of the album is like this track.

I'm guessing they'll be going on tour again soon. Last time when Modern Vampires of the City came out, they stopped by ACL Fest. For me, it was by far the best show that year.

I honestly forgot about them. I did love Contra though. Glad they are back.

Yeah, Contra is a really solid album. That was my introduction to them.

YES! My son and I are pumped they will stopping here.

I am always amazed how random routes concert tours take, some seem so inefficient.

Dang... No Detroit stop...

No Vegas either And they won't be in L. A. until after my daughter goes away for college so for her graduation present I will be flying her back to her birth place of Indianapolis and see Vampire Weekend there. Turning into a pretty freaking expensive concert for a lawn show. Thanks Ezra :mad2:

I didn't care much for their first album, didn't even hear their 2nd, but I really liked their 3rd album, and judging from these early songs, I think I'll really enjoy this new one too, so I went ahead and pre-ordered the vinyl.

I just received an email today that I get this cd free with my ticket purchase. Had an option to upgrade to an LP copy. Nice surprise.

^ Got my email a month ago or more. I upgraded my daughter's copy to vinyl but got a CD for me.
I think that's a common thing artists are doing now. Got free new CDs with recent Robert Plant, Sting, David Byrne and Paul McCartney shows. Maybe others.

Got the (limited orange) vinyl in the mail today.

Thought they mistakenly sent me two copies, but the other one was an unwrapped empty outer sleeve signed by the band. Pretty cool little surprise.

Listened the the whole thing once, and if flows really well as an album. I dig it, and the pre-released songs work much better within the context of the whole album. Vinyl sounds really good too, great dynamic range!

We are still waiting for our copy but my daughter is acutely aware that the band signed a limited number of copies and will be so disappointed if she doesn't get one. Her hopes are so up for that one.
Do me a favor and post a picture if you get a chance.

She's such a super-fan that she bought these earrings yesterday off Etsy after Ezra posted them on his Instagram feed

Listened once through, but will do a few more at work today. It's good. Not their best. Rostam departure is definitely felt. I liked his album a lot.
