Daryl Dragon of pop duo Captain and Tennille, more widely known as the "Captain," died at the age of 76 Wednesday due to renal failure, his publicist said. Dragon, known as the keyboard-playing husband in the group, died with his former wife of nearly 40 years, Toni Tennille, by his side. The duo, who had hits like "Do That To Me One More Time" and "Love Will Keep Up Together," officially split in 2014, but remained good friends. "He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life, when I was with him," Toni Tennille said. |

Super Dave Osborne was 76 as well. Unlucky number and a sad loss, I'm an unrepentant Captain and Tennille fan.

If your name was “Daryl Dragon,” why the hell would use “The Captain” as your stage name?

Captain and Tennille were a big part of the soundtrack to my childhood. My mom and favorite uncle would listen to them a lot, mom in the car and my uncle by his pool where I spent many weekends as a kid... always had a soft spot for these songs even if I didn't actively seek them out... :(

Oh yeah, as a kid growing up in the 70's I couldn't avoid hearing them on the radio, seeing them on TV, etc. RIP Cap.

Mike Love of The Beach Boys gave Dragon the nickname because of his fondness for sailor's hats.

The Dragon and Tennille sounds just fine.
Mike Love is one of the top 5 most un-cool people in history. Don’t let him nickname you. |
