So "song of the year" might come down to "The Joke" and "Shallow"? How appropriate.

Other than the Ghost album "Prequelle" I own nothing nominated. I have heard hardly any of the other nominees either which I think I am probably better off for.

Happy for Brandi, I've been a fan since her debut...

Ditto, other than Ghost I don't care about any of this. It's nice to see Ghost get a nom for best rock album and single ("Rats"). It's funny, they won a Grammy for "Cirice" in the metal category, but surprisingly even the Grammys recognizes "Prequelle" as a rock album rather than a metal album (and these are people who considered Jethro Tull to be a metal band).

Well I mean come on, the flutes in Jethro Tull are hard rocking...

Re: The 2019 Grammys

Bump for the show tonight.

Grammys are trying to screw things up worse than the Oscars are this year. Main disaster they committed is pissing off Ariana Grande to the point that she dropped out of performing or even attending after they refused to let her perform her new #1 hit on the show and insisting that she do a medley instead. Multiple nominees Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino declined to perform this year and also may not attend. Their list of performers this year is pitiful.
Spoiler:
Yolanda Adams, J Balvin, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Brandi Carlile, Chloe x Halle, Miley Cyrus, Andra Day, Dan + Shay, H.E.R., Fantasia, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Little Big Town, Post Malone, Ricky Martin, Maren Morris, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monae, Kacey Musgraves, Dolly Parton, Katy Perry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mark Ronson, Diana Ross, Arturo Sandoval, Travis Scott, St. Vincent, Young Thug

There will need to be a major overhaul after this year's show.

Their solution was "Have Alicia Keys do it"

I think Gaga had a seizure on stage during her performance.

H. E. R. was fantastic with "Hard Place". That was mind blowing - never knew.her before but I'm a believer now. Not much else impressed me much.

Thats the only part of the show I caught, shes the most self aware performer I've ever seen. It's hard to watch. Even that documentary she did, when it was supposed "the real person behind Lady Gaga", every second of it was a performance. I don't think even she knows if there is a real person beneath it all.

Cool, were the Sabs there to accept it?

Re: The 2019 Grammys

Of course not. The lifetime achievements were just mentioned in passing. It’s not like the Grammys will set aside time for rock.

Vinnie Paul was ignored in the memoriam segment

Re: The 2019 Grammys

I can't recall the last time that one of the big two award winners (Best Album, Best Record) no-showed. Maybe Beck for Morning Phase, I don't recall him being there -- but he had lost numerous times before. The fact that the artist who won Record and Song of the Year didn't bother to show up is bad enough, the fact that he felt above attending the Grammys but wasn't above doing this is a real problem for the Recording Academy. They need a major overhaul.

BTW : Here's the H.E.R. performance that I loved.

For me, the highlight of watching the Grammys is seeing an artist I'm not that familiar with totally connect and bring down the house. I remember several : Terrance Trent D'Arby, Alabama Shakes, Civil Wars, Mumford & Sons (sorry, but they were pretty cool the first time I saw them in the Bob Dylan tribute). This is another one that I am sure to remember.

I really liked the performance by H.E.R. as well, but the song melody sounded really familiar to me, I almost thought it was a cover. Have to figure out where I've heard it before...
I thought the West Side Story-inspired Latin opener was energetic, and it was nice to see some recognition for (an underutilized) Arturo Sandoval. And Camila is certainly easy on the eyes.
Brandi Carlile was awesome, best performance of the night for me!
I'm not a big fan of Dolly Parton, but I thought she sounded really good especially for her age. And the best song of the medley was the newest one ("Red Shoes"?).
Post Malone/RHCP did nothing for me.
The Motown medley seemed more like a promo for their upcoming TV special, could/should have been so much better.

And what was up with Lady Gaga's performance? That just seemed strange all around (just when I thought she's been kinda normal for a change...)
