That's not the point. Regardless of why a band member is absent, regardless of how satisfied you are with a concert, if you would rather have seen all original members you're not entirely satisfied. You're settling for the best you can get rather than what you really want.

One of the primary reasons that the band has given for discontinuing and not performing without Bonham over the years is that they felt it was a cheat to perform as Led Zeppelin because no matter how much people want it, it's not what they really want.

They're playing semantics. They have no problem playing as "Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones" instead. That way they're off the hook. They never said you'd be seeing Led Zeppelin.

One person sees Zep in 1973.
Another person sees Zep in 02.
Did they get equal value for their money, or did the person in 1973 get something the person in 02 didn't get?

Not saying this is the actual reason it doesn't happen. But the band has been consistent in pushing this reason since 1980.

That's hard to say. By that point, Page was deep into his heroin addiction, so much so that for the first time, Jones took a lead role in the writing, arranging and recording of "In Through the Out Door" along with Plant, while Page and Bonham (also struggling through his own addictions) often barely showed up to record their parts. So in 1980, Jones was more of the band's leader than Page was, so if he had died instead it still would have had a big impact on the band.

Plant was MIA also. He was still in a deep funk because his kid had just died. He was phoning it in also.
JPJ had to take control and babysit all three of them to get the record made.

This added fuel to the rumor that they had made a pact with the devil in exchange for fame. Singing the pact in blood. JPJ refused to do it and that's why he escaped personal tragedy. They got their 10 years at the top and now the bill was due.

Re: Why has Led Zeppelin never reunited?

If any member of the band had DIED the way Bonham did, I have no doubt the outcome would be the same. Now if they had come to the conclusion that one or more of the members need to be replaced, that would be an entirely different story. Had Bonham not died I believe that the band would have eventually replaced Plant. And like many band breakups, you would get a different story on if Plant was fired, or quit, based on who you talked to. Plus they eventually might have had to replace Bonham had he not shook the monkeys off his back.
