As much as I like The Beatles I don't think I'll be getting this. The extra stuff is kinda cool but is probably stuff I'd check out once and then never again with most of it.

I don’t own the album, so I figure the two LP will at least be worth it. I rarely care about alternate takes.

From all the advance word, the clean-up of the Esher demos make this an instant must-purchase. We're talking full on RAVES from hardened, hardcore Beatle fans.

Wouldn't raves from non-hardened fans (you know, people who aren't predisposed to liking all things Beatles) mean more than raves from hardcore fans?

If you don't like The White Album, multiple alternative takes of the same songs probably won't do much to win you over.

Nope. Hardcore fans are the most critical, most demanding, most nitpicking, most entitled, and absolutely first to piss all over everything that isn't 1000% everything their way.

They are loving this release so far.

I do love the White Album, but, as the Anthology sets make clear, The Beatles picked easily the best versions/takes of their songs for the albums as released.

I've heard from the advance listen reports that the remix of "Long, Long, Long" is nigh-revelatory in its greatness, but that the Esher demos alone make it worth the price of admission.

Dayenu...

Wow, the sound quality on this is fantastic. Even just listening to the streaming version. I wasn't going to buy this but just pulled the trigger because I can't wait to hear what it sounds like in hi-rez 5.1 now.

The full six-disc version is available for streaming, at least on Tidal--I didn't expect that, as Sgt. Peffer's was only available in the two-disc edition.

I typed Sgt. Peffer's, which is the name of an (excellent) pizza and pasta joint here in Omaha with Beatles stuff all over the walls. Oops!

Re: The Beatles Announce ‘White Album’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition 11/9

Listened to the new mix... meh.
It's not a huge difference form the original, but Giles basically removed what little balls/"oomph" that the recordings had, especially if you compare it to the mono mix.
Sound quality is exceptional.

Re: The Beatles Announce ‘White Album’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition 11/9

I’ve been listening to the remix on a loop. It is now my go to version of the album. Contrary to people’s fears, it’s not brickwalled and it is dynamic (even more so on the Blu-Ray). The mono transfer on the BD is also superior to the 2009 mono CD and the Esher demos sound glorious.

This release is making me fall in love with the album all over again.

Re: The Beatles Announce ‘White Album’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition 11/9

So I read somewhere that this is a numbered, limited edition. Is that true and how many are there? Was that the case with the Sgt. Pepper deluxe release as well (as I have yet to pick it up)?

Re: The Beatles Announce ‘White Album’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition 11/9

I'm hoping the hardcore Beatles fans can help me out with this.

First, let me say the 5.1 mix sounds absolutely amazing.

Seems like some of the tracks have already been released on the Anthology series.

-Not Guilty (Take 102)
-Rocky Raccoon (Take 8)
-Helter Skelter (First Version / Take 2)
Take 2 was already released on the Anthology discs.

They all have different running times though. Are these all the same exact tracks, just edited?
Thanks.

Read somewhere that 5 or 6 of the Esher demos were on the Anthology set.

From a Rolling Stone article:
"The Beatles spent five agonizing months making the White Album, often splitting up to work in separate studios. The fighting got so ugly Ringo quit for a week. In many ways, the Esher demos are the last recorded moment of the Beatles as a band. For the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, they tried to re-create this basement-tapes spirit, but instead documented their sad demise. Seven of the Esher songs appeared on Anthology 3 – “Happiness Is a Warm Gun,” “Glass Onion,” “Junk,” “Honey Pie,” “Piggies,” “Mean Mr. Mustard” and “Polythene Pam.” The rest remain unreleased."

The demos on the Anthology set are titled "Home Demos". I compared them to the White Album Esher Demos & Piggies, Glass Onion, Mean Mr. Mustard, Junk and Polythene Pam are identical.
Happiness is a Warm Gun & Honey Pie are slightly different though.

I was hoping they would include the single version of Revolution which is the only version of the song I like and is in my top 5 favorite Beatles songs.

Other than that, this is a good set.

I feel like I hadn’t heard those bongos this clearly in Ob-La-Di until now. Love it.

My son got me the Deluxe Edition for Christmas. I almost bought the Super Deluxe Edition, myself, back on release day. Pretty stoked to have this. Escher demos sound amazing.

Re: The Beatles Announce ‘White Album’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition 11/9

I like the new music videos that were created for this release

The Beatles - Glass Onion (2018 Mix)

The Beatles - Back in the U.S.S.R. (2018 Mix / Lyric Video)

I hope they create more videos like these
