Re: Massive Appetite for Destruction box coming 6/29

Guns N' Roses fans at the band's Not In This Lifetime tour stop in Odense, Denmark, on Wednesday night (June 6) got a surprise when the band busted out a rare b-side from their pre-fame days midway through their set at the Dyrskuepladsen Stadium.

The band busted out "Shadow of Your Love," a track written by singer Axl Rose and former GNR guitarist Izzy Stradlin for their pre-fame band Hollywood Rose and recorded during the sessions for Guns' landmark 1987 debut, Appetite for Destruction.

It was the first time the group had performed the track since June 22, 1987...

Here's a pretty thorough unboxing video of the $1,000 box set. If I get it I'll probably go for the 5 disc deluxe set, but damn there's a lot included here.

I still feel like this set will drop even more closer to Christmas. I'm holding out for around $75, if not lower.

I think five years ago you may have been right. But I am a big music consumer and the labels have gotten better recently at maintaining pricing on these pricey box sets.

They just don't over-produce inventory like they used to for these expensive sets. I could see it hitting $100 by some point. But the retail places willing to even carry a set like this are shrinking by the month.

So it isn't possible to just purchase the Blu-Ray with the 5.1 mix right?
You guys know the cheapest version that includes it?

I don't know if the acoustic version of You're Crazy has been previously released, but everything on disc 2 has whether it was from the Japan only EP Live from the Jungle or GN'R Lies.

All that's available online. Really would have liked to see the CBGB set on there.

Re: Massive Appetite for Destruction box coming 6/29

Looking forward to getting one of the least expensive versions of this AFD anniversary set, probably just the 2-disk one. Even though it won't contain much re: extras, it will be nice to get AFD remastered - even though my old CD still sounds fine.

As I mentioned earlier, it's disappointing that all versions of this release (even the more/most expensive ones) don't contain the controversial song One in A Million - even though they include the other songs from 1988's Lies. Again, I guess I understand why - but it's a significant omission. If you didn't already have this, you could always buy Lies for this song (if you wanted a physical media version), but it would also be nice to have it on this new release. Obviously, this is very noticeable by it's absence:

Agreed. The recent news that Best Buy will/has stopped carrying CD's this summer is proof that brick & mortar stores just aren't interested in selling these anymore. Back in the '90s', I remember that BB was my go-to mainstream retail store for new & old CD's. How times have changed.

There used to be a couple of small, dedicated CD stores in my area - but, the last one closed several years ago.

Think you misunderstood my question. Everything on disc 2 has been released already (on Lies & Live from the Jungle EP). I'm asking if the acoustic version of You're Crazy has been previously released. Disc 2 is B-Sides & EP's so I'm assuming it was released as a B-Side to something.

Fantastic, I was hoping so. That should tide me over while I decide if I want to buy this now or wait for a possible price drop.

Same with Amazon. Was pleasantly surprised when I checked the New Releases queue first thing this morning.

Re: Massive Appetite for Destruction box coming 6/29

I saw the 2 disc CD set at Target this morning, I'm holding off as I hope I can get the deluxe 5 disc set in the near future. I'll definitely check out the remastered version on Spotify, plus I just downloaded the whole Lies album since "One in a Million" is missing from this release. That'll tide me over until I can get the deluxe set.

And a heads up, as nowhere on the packaging nor on the download-card/sticker does it say this, but the download that comes with the vinyl is for the 16-bit download of ALL 51 tracks.

So $30 for the vinyl (which is a very nice, well-done packaging/pressing/mastering) is a pretty good deal.

*edit* I guess that was a mistake on their part - it wasn't meant to be for all 51 songs, just the album, and they fixed it as of last night, so the download is now for just the album. Lucky I got my 51 track download just before they did that!

Re: Massive Appetite for Destruction box coming 6/29

Oh fuck you really lucked out, I wish I had got in on that!

I've been listening to this on Spotify, and although it is nice to finally hear these demos in good quality (I've been listening to these songs since around 1989 on my "No Refrain" bootleg CD, where the "November Rain" piano demo was taken from a vinyl source and skips in a few places ) I really can't justify slapping down around $150 for these.

Unfortunate that they didn’t include the 1986 demo of Don't Cry in any of these sets. I like it much better than the finished version.

I'll keep an eye on this for another month until my wife's birthday and hope for a price dip before then. Do any of the set come with a flash drive with this digitally? If not that is a waste, that is something that would get some play a GnR flash drive.

That was released on the Don't Cry CD single. According to wiki it was recorded during 1985 Mystic Studio Sessions.

The Sound City Sessions is the best part of this release by far. IMO Appetite didn't need a remaster. This release is semi brickwalled & the previous releases, especially the Japanese release sound better. They should've just released a 2 disc set of the Sound City Sessions & a BluRay with the album in 5.1/stereo.

Yes, and it should have been included in here, too.

Re: Massive Appetite for Destruction box coming 6/29

Slightly OT, but didn't want to start a new thread.

Is it worth it to catch the Slash with Myles Kennedy concert? They will be 1.5 hours away later this year and my wife is an insane GNR fan. Last year I was able to take her to GNR for her b-day (also 1.5 hours from here) and Slash will be here for her b-day this year. Is his show worth going to? Cost isn't much, $60 after fees.
