Blind Items Revealed #17 - Kindness

September 3, 2015

Over the past few months I have not had much luck in getting hold of an old friend. I understand why I can’t and hope she gets the help she needs. When healthy she is one of kinder celebrities I have encountered and back in the day I witnessed a really cool act of kindness performed by her and her then husband. When this incident happened she was A+ list. She was in a group but it was all her that made it pop. Her group was touring with another group that still lingers but had its heyday about the same time as our foreign born former A+ lister.

I was there because of the other group and everyone decided to go to lunch. Both groups together. It was a mutual admiration society. All told with friends and whatever there were about 25 of us. No one bothered to call a restaurant we all just showed up. Seating 25 people was going to be an issue. All the tables were filled and there was a deadline to get back and no one wanted to get back in the vehicles and find another place to eat. This was in a strip mall and one of the stores was a True Value or Ace Hardware. Our singer walked over and saw they had picnic tables for sale so she bought all they had and then some traffic cones and rope and blocked off part of the parking lot and set up the tables. She then went back to the restaurant and told them her plan and they agreed to deliver the food. It was a Mexican place and they just served a bunch of different fillings with tortillas and brought out chips and salsa. basically it became one big buffet. Our singer felt bad for the patrons inside because their lunches had been disrupted so she bought all of them lunch and gave them all tickets and backstage passes to the show and boozed them up like crazy that night. She went to all the owners and employees of the stores in the strip mall and invited them all to eat for free at the buffet and did the same thing with tickets and passes. She paid the bill for the entire place and for a tip she tripled the amount of the bill. It was just something I will never forget. All of these people who were gathered together almost instantly and all together eating lunch out on picnic tables in the middle of a parking lot.

Re: Dolores O'Riordan (lead singer of The Cranberries) dies suddenly in London

Dolores O'Riordan's sudden unexplained death has made tidal waves in the music world -- just take a look at her sales online ... which are up over 900,000%.

Dolores' music both on her own and with her band, The Cranberries, dominated Amazon's music sales Monday after news broke of her death -- with one of The Cranberries' albums, "Something Else" surging at 913,350% in sales.

Her tunes also occupy the other top 4 slots for trending albums, which are up 147,552% ("Are You Listening?"), 107,520% ('Everybody Else is Doing It'), 93,781% ("To the Faithful Departed") and 77,096% ("Wake Up and Smell the Coffee"), respectively.

BTW ... her music sales on iTunes are also skyrocketing -- with Cranberries' albums dominating the number 3rd, 6th, 7th and 9th spots on their Top 10 Albums chart.

As we reported ... Dolores died Monday unexpectedly. Her bandmates sent out a message saying ... "We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries. The world has lost a true artist today."

Sources connected with the singer tell TMZ she had been "dreadfully depressed" in recent weeks.

She was 46.

Sadly, this was probably a suicide.

One of my favorite all-time bands. I bought all of their studio albums, including the release from last year with new acoustic versions of some of their best songs.

Hits hard. I had such a crush on her growing up.

And yeah, the lack of cause does point to suicide.

Yup.

I wanted to go to the last tour, but I believe they canceled the NYC date.

I think so many of their songs are incredible.

I loved the Live in Paris 1999 DVD back in the day. She was memorizing in that video, the stuttering eh oh, oh, oh, oh, style singing and that awkward dancing, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Was all set to see the Chicago show last fall before it was cancelled.

We had tickets to see her in Detroit before they cancelled. It was going to be my daughter’s first concert. My wife was a big fan. Very sad.

Re: Dolores O'Riordan (lead singer of The Cranberries) dies suddenly in London

The singer, who died suddenly on 15 January aged 46, was found submerged in the bath in her room at a London's Park Lane Hilton hotel.

O'Riordan died as a result of a "tragic accident", the coroner said.

She had no injuries or evidence of self harm, and had drunk an excessive amount of alcohol, expert witnesses said.

She had been in the Park Lane Hilton hotel as part of a recording trip ahead of a 2018 tour.

PC Natalie Smart, who attended the scene, told the inquest: "I saw Mrs O'Riordan submerged in the bath with her nose and mouth fully under the water."

The inquest heard that there were empty bottles in the room - five miniature bottles and a bottle of champagne - as well as containers of prescription drugs with a quantity of tablets in each container.

Toxicology tests showed only "therapeutic" amounts of medication in O'Riordan's blood, but showed up 330mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood - meaning she was more than four times over the 80mg legal limit for driving.

The inquest was attended by O'Riordan's mother, brother and sister-in-law. She split from her husband of 20 years, Don Burton in 2014.

She and Burton, who is the former tour manager of Duran Duran, have three children together.

The inquest heard that the singer checked into the hotel on 14 January. was in touch with room service at around midnight and phoned her mother at around 3am.

She was later found unresponsive in the bathroom and confirmed dead at 9.16am.

The inquest heard that O'Riordan had bipolar disorder but responded well to treatment.

The hearing was also told that she went through periods of abstention and periods of excessive drinking.

She had spoken to psychiatrist Dr Seamus O Ceallaigh on 9 January and was in "good spirits".

The inquest coincided with the day that would have been O'Riordan's 47th birthday.

In a statement issued after the hearing, The Cranberries said : "Dolores will live on eternally in her music."

The band's statement in full:

On January 15th 2018 we lost our dear friend and band mate Dolores O'Riordan.

"Today we continue to struggle to come to terms with what happened.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dolores' children and her family and our thoughts are with them today.

"Dolores will live on eternally in her music. To see how much of a positive impact she had on people's lives has been a source of great comfort to us.

"We'd like to say thank you to all of our fans for the outpouring of messages and their continued support during this very difficult time.

"We request, please, for our privacy to be respected at this time."

During the 90s, the Irish musician led the band to international success and their hit singles include Linger and Zombie.

The band embarked on a UK and European tour in 2017, but it had to be cancelled in May as a result of O'Riordan's health issues.

The official Cranberries website cited "medical reasons associated with a back problem" that prevented O'Riordan from performing.

But just before Christmas, the singer had posted on Facebook saying she was "feeling good" and had done her "first bit of gigging in months", leading fans to believe she would soon be on tour again.

I'm sorry, why the fuck did it take so long for them to come out with this if it was accidental drowning due to alcohol poisoning? By now everyone has assumed its a drug overdose and that is how she will be remembered as someone that died of an OD. I'm slightly gutted to find this was an accidental drowning.

Yeah, we should have heard this news sooner. I don't know why they had to let it linger.

Re: Dolores O'Riordan (lead singer of The Cranberries) dies suddenly in London

The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan sadly passed away exactly one year ago today, and in celebration of her life, the band have announced they have one last album coming that they started recording before her death and finished last year. It’s called In The End and it comes out April 26 via BMG (pre-order). Here’s some more background on how it all came together, via press release:

'The genesis of In The End began in May 2017 while the band were on tour. By winter of 2017 Noel and Dolores had written and demoed the eleven songs that would eventually appear on the album. “Dolores was so energized by the prospect of making this record and to getting back out on the road to play the songs live,” recalls Noel.

In coming to terms with her tragic passing Noel, Mike and Fergal listened to the songs and, with the support of Dolores’ family, wanted to honor their close friend, and collaborator by completing the record.

Speaking about the band’s concerns at the time Noel said, “we knew this had to be one of the, if not the, best Cranberries album that we could possibly do. The worry was that we would destroy the legacy of the band by making an album that wasn’t up to standard. Once we had gone through all the demos that Dolores and I had worked on and decided that we had such a strong album we knew it would be the right thing and the best way that we could honour Dolores.”

With the songs at various stages of completion they turned to Stephen Street – who had produced four of their previous albums including Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? and No Need To Argue – and spent 4 weeks in a London studio building the sounds around her vocals from the original demos. “It was a bitter sweet time. The joy of recording new tracks is always exciting and one of the best parts of being in a band. At the end of every day when we’d laid down our parts there was a sense of sadness, knowing that Dolores wouldn’t be in that evening to work on that day’s track,” remembers Noel.

The album is a strong goodbye from the band to their fans, a fitting tribute to their bandmate and friend and, most importantly, a collection of powerful songs that can take their rightful place with The Cranberries’ previous six records.

Speaking about the single and the album Dolores’ mother said, “I miss her awfully, specially today, as does the entire family. That said I can’t think of a more fitting way to commemorate the first anniversary of her passing and to celebrate her life than to announce to the world the release of her final album with the band. She was very excited about this new album and was really looking forward to its release. I have no doubt that she is happy now and would be delighted with today’s announcement.”
The first single released is opening track “All Over Now,” which has Dolores’ unmistakable howl in fine form. Listen and check out the full tracklist below.
