Name a song that you always seem to hear at the grocery store
For me, it’s either “While you see a chance” by Steve Winwood or “Let Your Love Flow” by The Bellamy Bros.
How about you?

I don't recall ever hearing music at my local grocery store. But next time I'm there, I'll be paying more attention.

"Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure
I also remember hearing a Ramones song... "Blitzkrieg Bop," I think.

I remember when they played Muzak- instrumental string, easy-listening versions of popular songs. (There's a somewhat hidden gag in the movie "Electric Dreams" where you hear a Muzak version of a Culture Club song during a scene in a supermarket.)

When I worked at a grocery store from like 2003-2010 I remember hearing these pretty often.
The Bangles- Manic Monday
The Byrds- Mr. Tambourine Man
Deep Blue Something- Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Gary Rafferty- Baker Street
R.E.M.- Man on the Moon

About fifteen years ago, I remember one store was always playing "The Tide is High" by Blondie and "Steppin' Out" by Joe Jackson.
It used to drive me nuts because I couldn't remember the name of "Steppin' Out" or that it was by Joe Jackson. After years I finally happened to catch the video on VH1 Classic and solved the mystery. I got so tired of asking all of my friends if they knew this song that started out like Hmmm hmmm. Hmmm-hmmm-hmmm-hmmm.

A grocery chain that is now closed used to play music, I remember Modest Mouse's "Ocean Breathes Salty" for example, but my local Kroger does not. I do miss the old Muzak songs, especially the vibraphone versions.

I rarely hear music in grocery stores and the like anymore. Seems to be fading away.
But I do recall being amused several years ago when I heard "I Wanna Be Sedated" at Walgreen's.

I hated Muzak with a passion when it was around, but since it went away I've grown to appreciate it from a humorous angle and wish it were still around. The top "beautiful music" format station here changed to more pop-oriented music in the 90s, and when eating lunch someplace that was playing the station they played Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer- I thought that I'd love to hear a Muzak version of that!

I can't name any of the songs I hear in grocery stores (unless it's classic rock), I hear the same alternative crap at grocery stores that I do at department stores, restaurants (even the higher end ones), malls, sporting goods shops, clothing stores, and it all hurts my ears. Most of it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, I'd no sooner seek out the title of the song or the "artist" as I would drill holes in my head or lop off my own arm. I long for the return of muzak.
Now, get off my lawn!

Not always, but last night I was at a grocery store and heard Nada Surf’s Popular, followed by the Men in Black theme by Will Smith. It seemed like a random selection of songs for a suburban supermarket.

Re: Name a song that you always seem to hear at the grocery store
A few years ago, I was in a deli in Manhattan getting lunch from the salad bar, when the music overhead started playing "My Green Tambourine," an insipid "hippie" song from the '60s that I'd thankfully long forgotten, only to have it forced back into my consciousness by this canned music station.
My gym plays lots of horrible music, old and new, and I rarely know what it is. I drown it out with my headphones listening to J-pop while I'm working out, but when I'm changing in the locker room, I have to listen to it. One song I figured out was a Taylor Swift song because the singer, quoting someone talking to her, says "Taylor." Another song I heard frequently turned up being played at a baby shower I attended and I mentioned this to my niece, who said, "That's Ed Sheeran! You don't know Ed Sheeran?!" Of course I didn't. Thus did my blissful ignorance end.

All these grocery stores must cater to a young hip crowd with this dated music.

Every time I shop at our local grocery store there's usually an Amy Grant song playing in the background.
