Coolio dead at 59

I know the majority of this forum hates rap. But Coolio was huge at one point. Gangsta’s Paradise got played to death on the radio in the 90s.

Damn, R.I.P. Gangsta's Paradise was one of the first CD's I bought back in 5th grade.

Re: Coolio dead at 59

Just saw the news right now. Kinda shocked. Not just a rapper but also an actor in various movies.

R.I.P. 🙏

He was in Batman and Robin of all movies. My favorite use of Gangstas Paradise was over the end credits in Pain and Gain.

Just watched his set at Riot Fest a few days ago in Chicago. Crazy that he's no longer with us. RIP

Not really my style of music, but the Gangsters in Paradise had a catch tune and which led to Weird Al what is probably his best known Song Amish in Paradise.

Re: Coolio dead at 59

Is it just me, or was he always pissed off or irritated? I can't remember ever seeing him look happy.

Either way, 59 is too young to go, for sure.

Gangsta's Paradise was huuuuugggeee when I was in middle school. One of two rap songs I actually know the lyrics to.

Re: Coolio dead at 59

It was huge with kids because Stevie Wonder wouldn't let Coolio sample his music for a song that was explicit. One of the first big rap hits that didn't have to be edited for radio?

The main thing I remember him from is the opening theme of Kenan and Kel.

He was a rapper. Isn't that part of the act for most rappers that they are supposed to look pissed off and angry all the time?

It helped that his music video was the best one he'd done.

Re: Coolio dead at 59

That video played endlessly on repeat when it came out. It seemed like MTV must have played it every hour or so.

Rest in peace, Coolio.
