Band dropped from its label for politically incorrect opinions

A band out of 1967 got dropped for expressing the wrong opinions. Funny how SOAD, Prophets of Rage, etc, can say the shit they do and there's no problems with it.

The article calls them a metal band but they are a 60s psychadelic trippy band.

https://www.dailydot.com/irl/dream-m...-face-records/

Austin-based metal band Dream Machine has been dropped from Castle Face Records following “ugly opinions” on ICE, immigration, feminism, and sexual assault, according to a statement from the label posted to Facebook Friday.

Dream Machine is made up of Matthew Melton, who previously played with Warm Soda, and his wife Doris. The couple commented on hot-button topics in an interview last month with Still in Rock, a French webzine.

The interviewer asked the band to “criticize something about the music world,” and Doris Melton pointed to “horrible feminist bands.”

“They’ll make songs about being ‘sexually assaulted’ or about how ‘empowering’ abortions are or some shit and it’s fucking retarded, they’re embarrassing themselves,” Melton said in the interview.

Matt Jones, who runs Castle Face Records out of California along with John Dwyer from rock outfit Thee Oh Sees, posted the label’s statement.

“I posted this story to Facebook myself without reading the whole thing, and boy do I regret it now,” Jones said in the statement.

Earlier in the band’s interview with Still in Rock, the discussion had turned to threats of deportation for international bands that played unofficial shows at South By Southwest. Matthew Melton said deportation is a “fair and just consequence” for rule breakers—but that bands should “play unauthorized shows anyway.”

-------

The band was on Greg Gutfeld's show on Fox last night.

Re: Band dropped from its label for politically incorrect opinions

Shouldn't this be in the political forum?

It's ironic that the female singer there is anti-immigration considering she's an immigrant from Bosnia, but hey she's white. She was referring to those "other" illegals.

Also, if the label is some upstart and private they can drop whomever they want. I don't see the issue here, but nice assumption in terms of correlation with SOAD, RAGE, and PROPHETS.

This is why it's important to be on a label that aligns with, or at least accepts, your band's ideals. There are some labels that wouldn't want Varg on their roster. Doesn't mean another label wouldn't snap him up in a heartbeat.

I was wondering the same but decided on music. If the mods disagree they will always move it.

The hell is so hard to understand here? Brown, white, yellow, illegal is illegal.

Yawn. You'd think they'd want some fans to begin with, but great way to alienate those that don't fit their bullshit rightwing agenda.

At least the bands that the OP mentioned all have great music even if you take away the lyrical content. Hell, Paul Ryan loves Rage Against the Machine, so.... maybe Dream whatever the fuck should send Congress a CD?

Who gives a shit about some no name band getting dropped from some no name label?
Oh, just folks who want to keep being Mad Online about "PC culture."
This band isn't "politically incorrect," they're just irrelevant.

I feel sorry for the three people who wanted to buy their album.

No need; I'm sure their dad, best friend, and second cousin already have copies.

I used to enjoy the Red Eye panels. I was never on board for everything they would say. But it was funny and I'd take away a little something. Greg quickly turned into a pundit who I can easily object to nearly every line he speaks.

Everyone clapping when she calls liberal-minded people mentally ill.

Kind of strange that a conservative-minded duo would fashion a 60s counterculture/hippie band when that movement/era was such a liberal ideal, but whatever.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was just a clever publicity stunt. Band nobody has heard of gets banned from label nobody has heard of, then suddenly is on Fox News and getting posted on boards everywhere (while the Youtube video of interview conveniently links to their music videos).

This is the show that would have Oderus from Gwar on every once in a while, right?

Yea. Oderus was awesome on there. That guy had a quick wit. Sad he passed.

I watched Fox News (other shows too) since when I started paying attention to politics around 2005, until around 2010. They went too crazy with all the anti-Obama pro-Republican stuff. I don't care at all for what they have to say now.

Not too surprising. It seems like most middle-aged oldies cover bands that cover stuff from the late 60s like the Beatles and Stones tend to be composed of 50+ men on the right end of the spectrum.

It's weird watching dittoheads playing hippie music, but I also notice that most white people tend to get more right wing as they get older.

It got them on a major news network. How many unknown bands on microscopic record labels get to do that?

Besides, shouldn't a record label be allowed to decide who they want to distribute no matter what the criteria? Private business and all that?

Sure, but can they afford the legalities of it? Bands like Rage, SOAD, Prophets, etc., are all on major labels that can afford the best legal representation money can buy should they need it.

These nobodies were just on talking shit and were allowed to be on by FOX, because it's FOX. Why didn't they make the rounds on other networks? Because they're wankers.

Hmmmm, I think I'll start a white power delta blues band.

I, in no way, condone the white power movement...but I would totally check that band out.

Very true. You always hear the "in my times things were different..." the world didn't change, they did
