well you're going to have to wait
very misleading thread title

I read yesterday that they were releasing a 7" single for RSD (Record Store Day) and the story you linked confirms the same .... there is no mention of a new full length release

Yeah, all I saw was about the 7", too. Still awesome, but if there is indeed an album on the way, that could be even more exciting.

Johnson has been working on a new The The album for well over a year. Keeps getting delayed for one reason or another. I'm trying to find the online I article I read where he announced he was working on it.

Edit: Here's one of the articles. Vague, I know. http://www.music-news.com/news/UK/87783/Read

I cannot wait. One of the most underrated bands of the rock era. Infected is my personal favorite record of theirs.

I believe Johnson has mostly been doing soundtrack work over the last few decades. I hope this new album is worth the wait.

Nice to see other fans of The The. I have been a huge fan since Soul Mining and think that Infected is the best album of the 80s and Mind Bomb was a superb follow up album. Nice to see Johnny Marr joining in again after so long.

Matt Johnson is extremely underrated and overlooked. Looking forward to this.

I'm glad to hear he's working on new music, especially with Johnny Marr. I love all of his work, but "Mindbomb" and "Dusk" were head and shoulders above the rest of his catalog. He assembled a great group of musicians for those.

I still think that he has never done a better album than Infected. One of those rare albums where skipping tracks is not necessary.

Infected is a really incredible work, but Soul Mining, Mind Bomb, and Dusk are just as essential.

Re: The The (debut first new single in 15 years, reuniting with Johnny Marr)

As for who will join Johnson on stage for the concerts, the band mastermind said in a press Q&A, “All I can say for now is that I have chosen one musician from each of the three band line-ups from my three world tours. Plus, there will be one new face. Stay tuned!”
A year ago, The The shared their first single in 15 years, the Johnny Marr-assisted “We Can’t Stop What’s Coming”. It turns out that won’t be the only new music we get from the band, as Johnson says he’s working on a whole new album. “Yes, I’m feeling inspired and have already started writing it,” he said in the press Q&A. “I’m hoping to begin recording sessions later this year but this all depends on our touring schedule.”

Re: The The (debut first new single in 15 years, reuniting with Johnny Marr)

I'm definitely getting tickets for this. I'm also very curious to see if Johnny Marr will make the line-up. He is about to start up the promo machine for his next solo album, so I wonder if that includes touring plans that may prevent him from being part of this. Either way, great news to hear that Matt is going to be touring again. He has some excellent songs from his back catalog to draw from.

Marr just announced some dates that overlap, so not likely. Maybe for some though.

Re: The The (debut first new single in 15 years, reuniting with Johnny Marr)

The The are adding one additional show in Los Angeles at The Palladium on Tuesday, Sept. 25th. There's supposed to a LiveNation presale today at 2pm, general on-sale is tomorrow at 10am. Looks like the first show already sold out, so if you didn't jump on it, here's your second chance.

Shit. Their second gig is in my home town. Not the best venue in the Students Union. Could have gotten way better, and they did last time they played. Wish I could make it back for them.
