Re: METALLICA: "HARDWIRED…TO SELF-DESTRUCT" 2CD/3CD Deluxe 11/18/16

I was with them from the beginning (Kill Em All on Megaforce vinyl \m/) and gave up after the black album. Maybe if the two egomaniacs would have let Newstead be more of a contributor we could have gotten better things from them. Newstead co-wrote one song on AJFA, co-wrote one on The Black Album, co-wrote one on Reload and that's it..................

I've said it before and it's Metallica blasphemy, but Newsted was a much better bassist sonically and stylistically for the Metallica of Justice and after. I learned how to play bass learning Cliff's bass parts but I always preferred Jason in the band. I think the band would have done well to allow him to contribute more but of course there's publishing royalties to consider.

The guitarist had recorded more than 250 riffs onto the handset before it went missing in 2014, but he’d never backed them up.

And it meant he wasn’t able to bring those ideas to the table as the band wrote Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which will be released in November.

Hammett tells KISW 99.9: “It was devastating for me. I had to start at zero again while everyone else had material for songs.

“By the time I got a few ideas flowing and formed, most of the songs were already written.”

He forced himself to look on the bright side: “I had to think, ‘Okay, I have stuff – but it looks like it’s going to make it onto the next album.”

That sucks but it's kind of funny too. Doesn't he have a personal assistant to help him with that stuff?

Anyone else think Lars snagged it to keep Kirk from getting credits on the new record?

Since my consolidation of "Load" would include "Ain't My Bitch", it's clear to me that finding a consensus may be difficult. I also like "Hero of the Day".

I agree, not even Robert Trujillo (who's an amazing bassist) fits as good as Newstead with his pick playing which gave him a sound with a more pronounced attack.

I remember being excited when I first heard him on Garage Days Re-Revisited and thinking that they found the perfect replacement.

I like Moth Into Flame so far. If you didn't like Hardwired I doubt you will like it however.

Yeah, Newsted could obviously write, he wrote a lot of the music and most of the lyrics for Flotsam and Jetsam's "Doomsday for the Deceiver" and that's a really good thrash album.

I mostly left after the Black Album, but came back occasionally (I liked most of Garage Inc) but there are probably less than ten songs between Load and Death Magnetic that I can say I really like.

Newsted was great on that EP, and the production had a really good bass sound. That's why I was shocked when Justice came out and the production regarding the bass was the exact opposite.

Re: METALLICA: "HARDWIRED…TO SELF-DESTRUCT" 2CD/3CD Deluxe 11/18/16

We’re back!! Welcome to track number two from Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, “Moth Into Flame.” As some of you accurately predicted, we gave it the first public spin while hanging out with our great friend Howard Stern this morning in his New York studio. Sitting and chatting with Howard is one our favorite things to do and we were honored that he offered to play it first and let us perform a few additional songs live while we were there. We’re also excited to debut the corresponding video directed by Tom Kirk of Muse fame.

The new song seems to be an improvement over the first single, although it runs a little long and is missing a classic Kirk solo in the middle. I'm still going to stay optimistic for the album.

I'm of the opposite opinion of most. I thought Hardwired was great, and Moth Into Flame was just decent.

Also as far as Jason as a songwriter, has anyone listened to his solo album from a few years back? Its not very good.

I haven't heard Jason's solo work, but my comment was based upon the assumption of collaboration with the rest of the Metallica - that would produce something different than Jason could on his own.

I just cant get into these new songs(hell last two albums) There is no feelings or soul(music) in those songs, just noise. Noise that doesn't sound right together, a mess.

"Moth Into Flame" is way better than "Hardwired."

I prefer Hardwired over Moth Into Flame but it may grow on me. I can hear a little old Metallica in there ... somewhere.

I really liked Moth and am totally stoked for this album!!

On a note after seeing that list, my favorite song has always been Orion. Does anyone know a good live recording of it that I can see, or just hear? Thanks!!
