Re: Rumor: Tool Will Release 2.5 Hour, Double-Album Decem This Fall

I'll get it but I've never cared to see Tool live ever. They're a glorified jam band that play well and have thoughtful lyrics but I would probably be bored out of my mind at one of their shows. Now if it's true and this new album comes out and those songs are as long as the track listings claim - I will be breaking out a bottle of booze and just spinning the vinyl at home. I like A Perfect Circle better in terms of performance.

Re: Rumor: Tool Will Release 2.5 Hour, Double-Album Decem This Fall

I saw APC twice, and both shows were fantastic.
I saw Tool three times, and all three shows were phenomenal.
I saw Puscifer once, and it was probably the best of the bunch, even if I don't like the material as much.

So, um... Tool is great to see in a live setting. Or, at least they were when I saw them. Can't believe how long ago that really was. Damn.

As for vinyl... there's never been an official release of 10,000 Days (lots of unofficial, and I'm not throwing my money at the equivalent of a CD-to-vinyl rip). The Lateralus vinyl is a picture disc (I'm not a fan...), and the Opiate and Undertow official releases are good. Aenima, I don't have.

I hope they do better with this than they do with Lateralus, though.

Re: Rumor: Tool Will Release 2.5 Hour, Double-Album Decem This Fall

I thought the next Tool album will be the last under the volcano label and then they are free - heard they can't stand being under that label and that is the reason for the delays between albums. May be completely false but I've heard/read about it more than once.

"The Outsider" by APC has been in constant rotation for me as of late along with "The Noose". Great music - hoping Tool can come out stronger than their last effort - not that 10,000 days was bad or anything, I still really like it but....after repeated listens, I just didn't go back to it as much as their older stuff.

Also, I'm not a fan of overly long songs.

I have seen Tool close to ten times or so and let me tell you, they are ANYTHING but boring live.

I'm a prog guy so I'm all about epic songs, but I'm with you on Tool. I much prefer the shorter stuff.

Sorry nerds, but Lateralus (the song) followed by Disposition/Reflection/Triad is the best ~35 minutes the band has ever created.

I don't think many Tool fans would disagree with that.

Oh, I know. But this talk about how Tool's short songs are preferred? Bananas, I say.

I've seen them 4 times, and I get more bored with them as time goes on. The music is fantastic, the sound is phenomenal, but as a band onstage, not much to look at. There isn't enough variation in the setlists to keep me coming back. I do still strongly suggest going and seeing them if someone never has.

Yeah, Tool doesn't have much, if any, of a stage presence live. Their shows are all about the musicianship and they basically play a greatest hits show on ever tour. Every time out you are going to get Maynard hiding behind a curtain and 12-13 tracks that will always include The Grudge, Sober, Aenima, Etc.

I love the Salival-version of Pushit. It's always cool when they make big changes to a song like that.

OK maybe I will finally spend the time to get familiar with the last two Tool records before this one. There's so much there I feel like I never really digested them. Maybe 4-5 repeated listens will do it.

That's what I'm talking about. I need presence, etc.

I'll join in with the lack of stage presence.... Definitely a jam band. Not bad, just not interesting.

I think it was the second time I saw them, on the Lateralus tour, they skipped Sober. Listening to people complaining about that on the way out was somewhat amusing.

I've seen Tool live twice. Once for Lateralus and once during a tour they did a couple years later.

The Lateralus one was a full blown art show, complete with acrobatics and performance art to go with everything. The second one was traditional rock show with Maynard singing his ass off in a speedo with his dad in the audience.

Had fun at both.

Anyone else going to see Maynard on his book tour this fall? Got a 3rd row ticket for the reading here in Portland.

13 years after the last album. Crazy.

I'm cautiously optimistic... and this was my favorite band for a long time.

They debuted some new songs a few days ago at an earlier show:

I'm holding off on the new songs until they release a single or the entire album. I don't want to ruin the experience listening to something with subpar sound quality.
