They need to put the synths away and break out the guitars already. I thought the last album would be the end of their pop music...

It cracks me up how much these young performers love the '80s. They sound like Martika B-sides.

Be nice. They're from Canada. We're about 35 years behind on this stuff. We just got the NES and snap bracelets last month.

They aren't that young. This will be their eighth album.

"Stop Desire" is the only track I'm really enjoying thus far.

Accoustic version of Boyfriend (basically only piano accompaniment) from backstage at Jimmy Fallon:

Yeah I like some of the recent retro-80s stuff, but a lot of it really does sound like inferior versions of early Depeche Mode and Human League. I guess the same was said about the Rolling Stones by old school blues fans...

Fun songs, as usual... they have a nice sound, esp when singing together. They come to Seattle in October (though in my least fav venue)...I'll probably try to make that.

While I'll pick this up and most likely enjoy it. I too wish they'd return to their earlier sound.. Two women, sharp lyrics, and a pair of guitars playing lyrics off each other's voice to craft melodies.

Here's a throwback from their first album..

And an album or two later

That's just where music is headed right now - more pop, less rock. It's a pendulum that should swing back. I hope.

Re: Tegan and Sara - Love You to Death - 6/3/2016

I'd assume 8 albums in they are making the music they want to make. It's not like someone is holding a gun to their head making them play pop music. I love both their two recent albums. If you want rock music listen to their old albums or any of the tens of thousands of artists making rock music currently.

It's not that they are making bad music, but as you can see from the backstage video above, their music/voices sound so much better with a simpler arrangement. Unfortunately sometimes popularity makes artists change their sound until they lose their fanbase, then they magically 'go back to their roots' or however they phrase it...
