Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

Someone pointed out on another thread that we've lost David Bowie, Glen Frey, and Prince this year, while Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Fats Domino are still with us.

Was never a huge fan but really dug Purple Rain (the album and the movie). RIP Prince.

Yeah I caught that too. Wondered what that was all about.

That live "Baby I'm a Star" performance was incredible.

TMZ has broken more celebrity/pop culture news in the last few years than everyone else combined almost. Most "reputable" news sources (whatever you think that is in this day and age) have just as many false reports as anyone else.

You may not like it, but TMZ is a legit source of this kind of news.

Let's face it, ambulance chasers, dispatchers, geeks who listen to police scanners and other insiders know where to go for the cash. They're not going to call CNN when there's no money to be made.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

A lot of his music is all but missing from most streaming sites. I'm sure that will be rectified soon, along with a release of all his music in his "vault". Which is supposed to be a lot.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

I'm incredibly sad. Purple Rain the movie and the soundtrack played such a big part of my youth. His Hits cds 1&2 were on constant rotation in our apartment during college in the early 90s.

My bucket list to see live just got marked down a notch. Wanted to see him and Metallica. Guess I've still got one.

I always wondered what was going on toward the end of that, in the apparent exchange between Petty and Prince. It was almost like Petty was motioning for Prince to cut it short, and Prince was like "Uh-uh, brother. This is MY time!"

Throws guitar, walks off stage, done. Classic Prince.

Re: Prince dead at 57. RIP

TMZ Reports Prince Treated For Drug Overdose One Week Before His Death.

Prince’s body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning, April 21st. The 57-year-old legend was sick recently and canceled some concerts on his Piano and a Microphone Tour, citing flulike symptoms.

Now TMZ is reporting that they have talked to insiders at the hospital where Prince was treated last week when his private plane had to make an emergency landing after his April 14 show in Atlanta. Prince was rushed from the airport to the nearest hospital, where sources say doctors gave him a “save shot” – which is typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate, like heroin.

Doctors advised Prince to stay overnight in for further treatment and observation, but The Purple One refused when he could not be accommodated in a private room. So, three hours after being admitted, he checked out and flew home to Minneapolis. TMZ quotes their sources as saying that when Prince left he “was not doing well.”

As it turns out, that show in Atlanta was his very last.

Prince hit international superstardom in 1982 after his breakthrough album 1999. Over his career he earned 30 Grammy nominations, won seven Grammys and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain. His 2007 Superbowl performance is considered one of the best of all time, and his current Piano and a Microphone Tour sold out every show. Prince sold more than 100 million records.

He went on to churn out a ton of hits — racking up seven Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 in one of the greatest live show of all time.
