According to Rolling Stone Magazine he has passed away. Too bad that ELP isn't in the Rock-n-Roll HOF. Very underrated group from the 1970s.

The Rock-N-Roll-HOF is absolutely meaningless. ELP achieved legend all on their own and will survive long after Jan Wenner's little circle jerk club crumbles into non-memory.

I remember Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. I liked them a lot as a teenager. I moved on and Emerson seems to have been forgotten. But those guys were the first people to expose me to 20th century intellectual music. RIP Kieth.

Friend of mine is really into synth music and got to meet Keith in 2009. He's not doing too well. He was also a big fan of Bowie.

I loved Brain Salad Surgery. That cover by H.R. Ginger almost gave me nightmares. I wasn't familiar with the group, I was mainly into rock. Upon first listen I wasn't sure what I heard. Gave it a second shot and almost wore out the album. Got their massive 3-album "Welcome to the Show..." live recording and caught up with their older stuff. Didn't get into "Works" too much.

Anyone remember California Jam? I didn't attend but a friend did. She told me later she had just dropped acid right before ELP came on. When Keith's piano was spinning she freaked out and wasn't sure if it was really happening.

I still have that video of live performance of The Great Gate of Kiev. Keith sure was abusing that poor Hammond organ. Was going to post that video but it no longer on Youtube.

I have The Return of the Manticore box set. Contains most of their better material given how few studio albums they put out. ELP is another one of those bands that really get underrepresented by classic rock radio. Usually only playing Lucky Man, Karn Evil, and if you're lucky, Still...You Turn Me On.

I'm the opposite; Works was what got me into ELP. I really enjoyed Side 4, the group side, but Side 1, Emerson's "Piano Concerto No. 1" absolutely blew me out of the water. It's still one of my all-time favorite pieces. That eventually led me to his soundtrack for Argento's Inferno, which cemented my fanship permanently.

There was also some really good solo stuff from Emerson on the previously-mentioned Return of the Manticore set--I particularly like "Prelude and Fugue."

I was student teaching (at age 20) when a high school student only a few years younger introduced me to ELP. We listened to some of his albums after school & discussed them. I wasn't convinced at the time, being more a hard rock fan, but eventually grew to like them quite a bit. When my student teaching gig was over, he actually gave me a new copy of Tarkus. I was so touched that I never parted with that gift.

At first, I thought they were a bit on the pretentious side along with a lot of prog-rock, and appreciation came later. Funny...I'd say ELP introduced a lot of teens to some classical music they'd never heard. And I believe Emerson was the first to introduce me to the Moog synthesizer.

if it had not been for Keith and Greg and Carl and this album right here I would have never learned to appreciate classical music now I have a vast collection and love my sundays with the classics. Rest in Peace Keith thank you for bringing this little hippie some culture.

Great band, although it took me a bit to get into. Bummer that it came to suicide, I hate to hear that someone got to the point where that seemed like the best action.

I can say I was one of the fortunate few back in the 70's to see one of their shows. And even more so when it was the one where they first announced they were taking along a decent size orchestra but was shelved only after a few shows due to size & cost. It was something to see and hear.

Emerson was literally brilliant and a heck of a accomplished keyboard player. Back in the 70's & 80's he and Rick Wakeman of Yes were THE keyboard players and the insane sounds they produced. And just do a search on "Moog Synthesizer" and Keith's name will be right there. What he got out of that is simply amazing. So sad of such talent that passed away.....Long Live ELP!!!

Growing up, I found it hard to get into some of their stuff, but I felt Brain Salad Surgery was the perfect combination of Prog-rock and commercial accessibility. It became one of my favorite albums from the 70's.

Sorry to hear Keith took his own life possibly due somewhat to the hurtful comments on his current playing abilities. Wish he'd realize there were plenty of us who hadn't forgotten his talent and appreciated the enjoyment those talents gave us.
