Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Considering that YouTube user's other uploads, I'm going to go out on a limb and say...
Spoiler:

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Yeah - didn't see that until just now - removed my post.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Looks like those rumors of Steph Carpenter were true. He wants to go back to metal roots. http://www.nme.com/news/deftones/92420

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Hmm... should be interesting when the album finally comes out.
Either way :rock2: Seeing them tomorrow! |
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Saw them on Saturday at SXSW. Good show.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
So the show was a little disappointing, but still enjoyable. The band - Chino in particular - didn't seem to have a ton of energy during the first half. Timing was off... some lyrics seemed to be skipped entirely. Things got better in the second half, for sure. The two new songs were great to hear live.
I'm glad I went, and I'll definitely go again if I have the chance. Had I known there was an opening band, I'd have showed up an hour later. |
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
They announced a summer tour today. They are coming here at the end of August and a few days before are in Vegas. I may hit up both dates.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Got my tickets for their show here in AZ. I loved what they did though (sarcasm). They promote you get a copy of their new CD when it comes out. When you go to buy the tickets, you learn you are being charged $4.50 for it. Fuck that shit. Tell me that before I get to the purchase part. I was going to go buy the actual CD despite getting the "free" album when I thought it was free to support them. Now I'm not. A $47.50 ticket also became $63.50 after the download charge and all the bullshit charges.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Listened to this once so far. Phantom Bride is the stand-out track for me. It's not a heavy song at all, but I love it. Can't wait to hear this one live.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
I can see why Steph may be upset. Usually their CDs are half harder stuff and half melodic/slower stuff. This seems to be entirely melodic. I have listened 4 times through. It is growing in me. I think the songs they have released as singles are the ones I enjoy the most.

I really like this album a lot - it's definitely not metal though. I THINK 'Gore' is the hardest track on the album. So far, (L)MIRL is the standout track for me - I just think it's a well put together song. Definitely like this much better than Koi No Yokan - I dig the new route they're taking but I hope they don't get too tame. |

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Deftones were on Kimmel last night. Prayers/Triangles was on the show. Sounded pretty damn good live. Chino looks weird as hell with the bleached blonde hair.
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Damn, that was an awesome performance. What a lame crowd, though.
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Yeah good performance - nothing surprising about that. Carpenter looked like he was into it as well
Oddly as well....I have been listening to prayers/triangles a lot - didn't care for at it first but now it's a constant play. |
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Just listened to this for the first time. I think it's just as good as the two albums that preceded it. If there was anything that I would say took away from the album it's that there was no one stand out song like there was on their first few albums. But some would say that is because those same albums had songs that were not as worthy and that's why some stood out so much.

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Video of both songs they performed at Jimmy Kimmel:
Hearts/Wires: http://abc.go.com/shows/jimmy-kimmel...VDKA0_952u26v2 Prayers/Triangles: http://abc.go.com/shows/jimmy-kimmel...VDKA0_ydnhoit5 Gotta say, these songs sound really, really good live. |
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
This one is a grower. Really excellent stuff, though. Keeps getting better on repeat listens. Great band. They sure have come a long way since I first saw them live in 1996!
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
After many listens - I still really dig the album but hearts/wires and the cantrell song do nothing for me - really starting to get into the title track as well.
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Just out of curiosity - have any of you heard this unreleased song from their self titled album back in 2003? I think it's excellent:

Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
^ Is that real? Uploaded to YouTube by some random dude with only 5 videos. Admittedly, I didn't really listen to it yet, but that is kinda fishy.
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Nah, it's legit.
|
Re: Deftones - Gore - 4/8/16
Yes, it's legit - it's a b-side off their self titled - didn't make the album cause the band didn't think it fit with the overall tone. It came out on the hexagram release:
