I don't think there was a musician or a band ever that was so equally respected by both the punks and the metalheads as Lemmy and Motorhead. Maybe because Motorhead was a good measure of both punk and metal, or maybe because just about everyone loved Lemmy.

Former guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke wrote on Facebook.

"I have just been told that Lemmy has passed away in LA. Like Phil, he was like a brother to me. I am devastated. We did so much together, the three of us. The world seems a really empty place right now. I am having trouble finding the words … He will live on in our hearts. RIP Lemmy!”

So now that Lemmy is dead, I guess Motorhead will be nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. After all, they waited until major members were dead before nominating Deep Purple and Yes...

If you have not seen it check out "Lemmy" the documentary. Good stuff.

He seemed like what you saw is what you got and he was not fake or a phony.

He goes to Amoeba and buys the Beatles box set in person without letting an assistant grab it for him.

It's a shame he's gone. I can't say I've ever enjoyed Motorhead but it always sucks to lose such a metal icon.

Well they had billing with the Foo Fighters for the show I was at. There was supposed to be three bands total (I can't remember the name of the third) and the third band was a lesser known one that would have been the opening act. Motorhead would have followed them and then the Foo Fighters were the main billed act.

I didn't realize that Motorhead had made albums all through the years and and a new one just this year.

I listened to the cover of Sympathy for the Devil off the latest album and it's very good. Tough song to cover, but they certainly made it sound very "Motorhead".

I remember that night of the show and how lucky I felt that I was able to be witness to greatness. It ties with my Pink Floyd show as #1

It was bound to happen, but it's still a surprise. Lemmy lived his life up to the last moments. A true icon.

I've tried to see Motorhead live over the past 10 or so years, and every show was canceled, except for the one I didn't buy tickets to.

i was at a little league game once and every child on the field was fathered by Lemmy. I was also amazed to learn he invented the cigarette lighter and then a year later the cigarette.

i wonder who is tasked with going through his apartment? As a professional hoarder myself, i am a little cowed by the thought.

i am saddened to hear of his loss. It is like hearing sinatra died. someone who was always around and you never really think of them no longer being around. Another sad reminder of the small amount of time we really get in this world and how fast it really goes.

finding out on the 26th and being gone the 29th is not scary if you are ready?

i guess it is a lesson to us all. chain smoke for 57 years, drink whiskey by the gallon, gobble speed by the handful and have sex with vast amounts of women and you will only live to 70 and have a million great stories. If only he didn't smoke or do drugs, he might have had 5 more good years.

I really hope there is a way to study his physiology to find out why it took this long to get cancer and if he had some sort of antibodies that staved it off.

I saw that too but it was Iron Maiden, Motorhead & Dio.
Now that was a hell of a show.

Yeah, that was the show! I just left out Maiden because they aren't dead yet
That show, Bruce about beat some dudes ass for being an asshole in the front row.
Instead, told the crowd around him that if he acts up again, to kick his ass.

Im so glad to have seen Motorhead a few times over the years. It was as awesome as I thought it would be. I saw Lemmy up close earlier this year as he walked into a studio to do an interview with Nikki Sixx. That was also awesome as well.

R.I.P

He also co-wrote Hellraiser, I don't Want to Change the World, Mama I'm Coming Home, and Desire with Ozzy on No More Tears and he also was a roadie for Jimi Hendrix.

Sad he died less than one week after his birthday on Christmas Eve.

Last Pic Of LEMMY Surfaces

Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister died last night (December 28th) from an extremely aggressive cancer, four days after his 70th birthday. Kilmister was in the above photo with Sebastian Bach, which was posted on December 16th on Bach’s Facebook page, just 12 days before his death. Bach is seen holding a Lemmy mask over his face.

Bach released a message about the passing of Kilmister saying: “Goodbye Lemmy, what else is there to say? Goodbye Motörhead, rock ‘n’ roll will be a little less cool starting today. #endofanera”
So sad to see him looking like like that. I know he was old and sick, but still ...

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond a joke. The number of great artists they've left out, while others have been inducted is insane. Plus, not being inducted the year you become eligible, but eventually going in is enough of an insult that I wouldn't even bother showing up. The fact that The Steve Miller Band might go in before Slayer, Motorhead, Joy Division, Sonic Youth etc etc is fucking hilarious.
