^That's funny. I'm not familiar with his music or why he's hated, but it's commendable that he can make fun of himself.
Speaking of power ballads and "wuss rock", andicus, you may remember Paul Janz from the early-'80s through the early-'90s. He got a fair bit of radio play here in Canada, but he didn't manage to break into the U.S. market. I love a lot of his music, schmaltzy though it may be. His best-known song is probably "Believe in Me":

I thought the only hit song Paul Janz had was "Go to Pieces", which I didn't care for. I never heard any other song from him.
I'll counter "Believe in Me" with "I Believe in You" - by another Canadian Amanda Marshall... who was on her way to being big but it never really panned out for her.
Great voice and presence. It's been 19 years since her last album.

Lesser known Canadian bands (I.e. skipping Rush, Triumph, and the like), from the 80s, that I liked included The Spoons, Dalbello, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet (Kids in the Hall, theme song band), and Gowan. I guess I'd throw Bruce Cockburn and Jane Siberry in there, too. Oh, and Saga. I worked with the drummer from Saga, briefly, back around 1990.
Actually, the more I think, the more I remember... Carol Pope/Rough Trade, Men Without Hats, National Velvet, The Box, Images in Vogue, Strange Advance, and on and on. I miss those days.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the lovely Quebecois, Mitsou. I suppose this video might be considered a bit politically incorrect. She is, however, quite cute in it.

don't think I saw this video before or even heard this song but stumbled across it on Youtube the other day. It's a very sweet song and gives me a new appreciation for Jennifer.

^Agreed on both counts. I was disappointed, however, that it's not the actual song used in the movie.
She is absolutely stunning, in that video.

This is my fave tune off Springsteen's last album. The verse is better than the chorus, but he and the band haven't sounded this vital and vigorous since 1984. "Burnin' Train":

Usually not something I like but did not change the station when making right turns and waiting at red lights
