Re: Post a song you like or love.

Yeah, I adore '80s music, but did you miss The Trews farther up? Here's another post-'80s Canadian song I love. Every Canadian knows this tune. I just love it, though I'm not a fan of the band:

Two from a great debut album.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

This is probably the strangest and most discordant song that I actually like. The power drill is a nice touch.

Norm, I tried. Interesting, though.

For kd5, here are two outstanding cuts from the great but obscure Buckingham Nicks album. The first clip has tons of rarely-seen photos of young Stevie from her early career pre-Fleetwood.

Understandable. It's an acquired taste. It has lots of fans (as does the album from which it comes), but I appreciate it more than love it.

As an ardent Buckingham fan, I found that album a disappointment when I bought it several years ago. It's kind of an embryonic exhibition of their talents. Two of the songs I like moderately are "Without a Leg to Stand On" and "Don't Let Me Down Again".

I really liked this one from this forgotten Canadian band Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. Loved that jazzy-blue tunes from Frank and the band.

Recently discovered Theocracy off youtube. Wow, a Christian progressive rock band. lol Some of their songs can go on for 20 minutes. This tune is just amazing songwriting. Quiet opening, bombastic melodic chorus and killer guitar solos. Everything I want in a band.

There is a lot of CPR (Christian Progressive Rock) out there. Quite often influenced by Phil Keaggy and/or Kerry Livgren.

A track from Jonny Greenwood's "Phantom Thread" film score. Wonderful work.

For some reason I really enjoy Sky Walker by Miguel when it comes on the radio.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

And now for something completely different, classical music (technically not "songs"). This gorgeous piece, which I'd want played at my funeral, is one of my favourite piano sonata. Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen, Träumerei (Op. 15):

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Speaking of underappreciated Canadian songwriters... (And a timely first line!)

lyrics:
Spoiler:
Day after new years and I’d had a few beers
Maybe I was looking for something to do
At the Silver Dollar the all-girl band hollered
And I stood a bit taller ‘cause I was standing next to you
It felt like I knew you, it felt like you knew me too
We had it locked up threw away the key
But now this cloud it ain’t lifting and I feel like I’m drifting
Down a river of your tears and out into the sea

And it leaves me in a rough place
You with the long face
Me with the disgrace of leaving you alone
And even if I miss you, you know I can’t kiss you
Or give you a tissue or make it go away

Now it’s almost two years later feeling like a failure
Feeling like a man that I don’t wanna be
And from sunny September to this dismal November
It’s been a challenge to remember where I left my dignity

And it leaves me in a rough place
You with the long face
Me with the disgrace of leaving you alone
And even if I miss you, you know I can’t kiss you
Or give you a tissue or make it go away

Back to some rock. First two tracks from 1998 CD from Foam. Great one-two punch (really love the second); sadly, the rest of CD doesn't rise to that level.

Not life-changing or my 'favorite' song. Just something I heard recently that has stuck with me for some reason...

That's what this thread is all about. Anything on the spectrum between "Yeah, that's pretty cool" and "Fuck, that's phenomenal!"

I have grown quite fond of that weird but catchy song from the previous page, "Trouble" by Grapetooth.

Re: Post a song you like or love.

Since we were talking about both Canadian songwriters and The Searchers, here's a song that bridges both gaps. You could pick from tons of great versions, but this one is done by Ian & Sylvia (original writers/performers) with added bonus of being joined for ending chorus by Judy Collins, Gordon Lightfoot, Murray McLachlan, and Emmyou Harris).

Just for good measure, here's a Searchers cover of a P.J. Sloan song. Really love this live version from Swedish radio...shows how great the lads were both vocally & instrumentally. This one has very high energy ("C'mon!") & nice jangly Rickenbacker 12-string...and, of course, those splendid harmonies.
