Weezer -- The White Album
They released a song called "Thank God For Girls" a few weeks ago, but it was terrible so I'll save you guys from that, but they released this song today that has a bit of a Pinkerton era feel to it. The lyrics are kinda dumb though, but that has somewhat become par for the course from Rivers over the past decade or so.
I swear the guitar interlude sounds almost exactly like the one from Pink Triangle. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/h_Wu6lI-42w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
re: Weezer -- The White Album
I don't care for the new song much at all. I have such a love/hate relationship with Weezer. Their last album was okay but ultimately really forgettable (I barely remember any of the songs off it off the top of my head). I think they've had an issue with trying to satisfy portions of their fan base who only want music that resembles what they did on their first two albums which is unfair to them at times, but they don't exactly help their cause with crappy songs like this.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
The last album I liked was the Red one...maybe a song or two since then.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
Do you wanna get high definitely sounds Pinkerton. Digging it

Also in somewhat recent Weezer news, last month somebody did a mashup album of them and Kanye West called Yeezer. (Naturally.) It's not bad. The band liked it enough to promote it on their Facebook page. http://i.imgur.com/RLbg9Bi.jpg Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hd...zer%282%29.zip |

<iframe width="620" height="345" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nGyBIQjU2Lk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> http://pitchfork-cdn.s3.amazonaws.co...de=transparent Weezer ("The White Album"): 01 California Kids 02 Wind in Our Sail 03 Thank God for Girls 04 (Girl We Got A) Good Thing 05 Do You Wanna Get High? 06 King of the World 07 Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori 08 L.A. Girlz 09 Jacked Up 10 Endless Bummer What was the inspiration behind the songs on this record? The inspiration behind the songs were my experiences hanging around the Westside of Los Angeles, which has been our home since Weezer began. Hanging out with people in Venice and Santa Monica, the beach, the Hare Krishnas, the Sikh on roller blades with the guitar, girls on Tinder within a 4 mile radius, seeing other bands, the kids from La Sera. I would just tweet out "does anybody wanna hang?" and then I'd get together with people who responded and talk about life. I love California. I wanted the album to make you feel like you were there with us SoCal weirdos even if you're in Milwaukee in December. How do you see this album as a "beach album"? Obviously my favorite band has always been the Beach Boys, and what I love about them most are the melodies and the chord progressions. I guess the harmonies too. And the orchestration. Can't forget about the lyrics. So basically everything. I wanted to get that kind of vibe: beautiful tunes and sweet lyrics. I also love the dark side of the beach – Venice after dark, hearing at the Del Monte Speakeasy about how the gangsters used to drag the bodies through the catacombs and leave them under the pier. What are you most excited/proud of with this album? I'm proud of the demented lyrics that are like, "What? Who says that? Who thinks that? What planet on am I on? I don't know, but I kinda wanna stay!" Welcome to our planet, people! After twenty-four years, we still love being in this band and we wanna keep it going for at least another fourteen years. 03-31 Brooklyn, NY - Warsaw 04-03 Manchester, England - Academy One 04-05 London, England - O2 Brixton Academy 04-08 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Heineken Music Hall 06-10 Houston, TX - Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion *# 06-11 Corpus Christi, TX - Concrete Street Amphitheater * 06-12 New Orleans, LA - Bold Sphere Music at Champions Square *# 06-14 Miami, FL - Bayfront Park Amphitheater *# 06-15 Tampa, FL - MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater *# 06-16 Atlanta, GA - Aarons Amphitheatre at Lakewood *# 06-19 Charleston, SC - Volvo Cars Stadium *# 06-20 Charlotte, NC - PNC Music Pavilion *# 06-21 Raleigh, NC - Walnut Creek Amphitheater *# 06-22 Virginia Beach, VA - Farm Bureau Live at Virginia Beach *# 06-24 Bristow, VA - Jiffy Lube Live *# 06-25 Canandaigua, NY - Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center *# 06-26 Scranton, PA - Pavilion at Montage Mountain *# 06-28 Gilford, NH - Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion at Meadowbrook *# 06-30 Wantagh, NY - Nikon at Jones Beach Theater *# 07-01 Boston, MA - Xfinity Center *# 07-02 Holmdel, NJ - PNC Bank Arts Center *# 07-05 Philadelphia, PA - BB&T Pavilion *# 07-06 Toronto, Ontario - Molson Canadian Amphitheater *# 07-08 Detroit, MI - DTE Energy Music Theater *# 07-09 Milwaukee, WI - Summerfest – Marcus Amphitheater *# 07-10 Chicago, IL - Hollywood Casino Amphitheater *# 07-12 Indianapolis, IN - Klipsch Music Center *# 07-13 Nashville, TN - Ascend Amphitheater *# 07-15 Dallas, TX - Gexa Energy Pavilion *# 07-16 Oklahoma City, OK - Zoo Amphitheater * 07-17 Rogers, AR - Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion *# 07-19 St. Louis, MO - Hollywood Casino Amphitheater *# 07-20 Kansas City, MO - Starlight Theater *# 07-22 Brandon, SD - Badlands Motor Speedway * 07-23 Council Bluffs, IA - Harrah's Hotel & Casino Council Bluffs – Stir Cove * 07-24 Denver, CO - Fiddler's Green Amphitheater *# 07-26 Salt Lake City, UT - USANA Amphitheater *# 07-28 Burnaby, British Columbia - Deer Lake Park *# 07-29 Seattle, WA - Marymoor Park *# 07-30 Portland, OR - Edgefield *# 07-31 San Francisco, CA - Shoreline Amphitheater * 08-02 Phoenix, AZ - Ak-Chin Pavilion *# 08-03 San Diego, CA - Sleep Train Amphitheater * 08-05 Santa Barbara, CA - Santa Barbara Bowl *# 08-06 Irvine, CA - Irvine Meadows Amphitheater *# * with Panic! April 1st? The White Album?

re: Weezer -- The White Album
I like King of the World more than any of the previous singles.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
It leaked today. Will need to give it a listen why I get home in a few hours.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
I've seen good early reviews so I might wind up picking it up. I thought their last album was forgettable but not terrible.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
Pretty damn good album, not gonna lie.
Thank God For Girls, although it has grown on me, is the weakest song on the album. |
re: Weezer -- The White Album
Bummer. Doesn't look like they'll be playing at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club this summer like usual. Oh sure, they'll be at Sleep Train Amphitheater, but I don't want to have to pay to see them...

re: Weezer -- The White Album
Are they good live? I've thought about seeing them a few times and they'll be in my state this summer but not sure if I'm a big enough fan anymore that I want to travel to see them.

The band live? Pretty damn good. The fans? Not so much.
Now, for full disclosure, the only times I've seen them were in 2014, and 2015, as part of the Summer Concert Series at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Pay for admission to the races, and after the races there's a free concert from Weezer. So I don't know if the attendees are of the same caliber as you'd get at an actual paid Weezer concert. It's more like, hey, let's go to the track today and bet on the ponies. Oh, if we stay, we get a free Weezer concert? Shit, count me in. The result is that the people acted like it was a party, and the music was provided by Weezer. From where I was, there were groups hanging out, having a conversation, and enjoying the background music. They weren't even looking at the stage!! Or, you had people singing along, badly. And I was far enough away that the crowd singers were much louder than the band (perhaps if I'd gotten closer to the stage I'd have had a better experience, but my days of pushing to the front of a large arena-style concert are long gone). Again, your experience at a paid concert vs. the free ones I attended, plus getting closer to the stage, may be much better than mine. |
re: Weezer -- The White Album
They seem boring live. I have watched clips and they're not a very charismatic band, so I'd stick to the albums. Granted, I have not cared about a Weezer album in like 20 years.

re: Weezer -- The White Album
I've seen Weezer maybe 8-10 times since 2002. They've gotten better live. I think they're peak was maybe 2008-2012, concert wise (not including the '90s). I saw some really great shows then. The best was when they were doing the Memories tour and playing 2 nights in cities doing Blue one and Pinkerton the next. The Pinkerton show setlists were crazy good. Every time I see them I feel like it's something different. Rivers goes through stages with way he acts on stage. Back in the day he was timid now he's more outgoing and has a "rockstar" I don't give a fuck I'm too cool for school attitude act. Though, he's a little too old for that.
I got a $20 ticket through Groupon to see them this tour. This will be the first time since 2011 I'll be seeing them. That last show I saw they were doing dual sets with The Flaming Lips...which was interesting. |
