Third Eye Blind - New Album Dopamine Drops 6/18/2015, Tour, New Single Out Now
New album dropping soon! First album in six years. One of my favorite bands, can't wait to hear some new stuff.
First single is Everything is Easy, pretty much vintage 3EB:

I actually liked them quite a bit back in the day. I only really listened to their first two albums but I have their last album (Ursa Major) too. Never really listened to the last album as much though.

I still think they are pretty solid and have enjoyed everything they've put out. I saw them not too long ago too and they put on a good show.
The opening to this new song sounds like a blink182 song.

So this is out and apparently will be their last studio album.
This comes from a 2012 interview with Jenkins stating they will just release a song here and there digitally. No more full studio albums.

Personality, I found the new album to be a bit of a grower. Took a few listens before I really started to appreciate it, but now I'm quite enjoying it.
You can tell that Jenkins was on a David Bowie kick while writing parts of the album, as he, and his songs, get name dropped on "Rites Of Passage" and "Exiles", while "Get Me Out Of Here" melds elements of both Bowie and Queen, plus a healthy dose of Mott The Hoople. The latter track should have been the album's closer, too. I also hear a bit of The Cure in "Everything Is Easy", particularly in the bass line.
One of Dopamine's only downsides to me, though, is that it is missing a bit of firepower in the guitar department. While Kryz Reid is a more than capable guitarist, his playing tends to be mostly serviceable more than anything else. Even though he has been perfoming with 3EB for the last five years, it's also kind of telling in that he only contributed songwriting to two of the album's tracks. Ried is definitely no Kevin Cadogan, whose style and songwriting was very much a highlight of the first two albums. He's also not even a Tony Fredianelli, and when listening to this record, it becomes all the more apparent how much even he brought to the band as a guitarist and songwriter on Out Of The Vein and Ursa Major. But, maybe that's the way Jenkins wanted it, after ending up in lawsuits with his previous two guitarists.
All that aside, though, Dopamine is a pretty decent album, with plenty of standout songs. The more time I spend with it, the more I'm appreciating it, and it's an overall much stronger effort than Ursa Major.

I've heard other bands say they were going to go that route, too, but even some of the ones who initially did that, like Ash, have already gone back to making albums, as there is even less money in singles. The reality, too, is that it is hard to build hype around just the occasional song being released every so often, as opposed to a whole album. Plus, with the resurgence of vinyl, the album, as an art form, is making a bit of a comeback in the way people listen to music.

This song isn't on the album, but it's a pretty kick-ass cover of Beyonce's "Mine".

Definitely a lot better than Ursa Major, in my opinion. Out of the Vein is still my personal favorite.

That sucks. Haven't listened to it yet but I'll never understand what would make bands go that route especially when none of them have ever succeeded doing so.
I'm a fan & would've never known this album even got released last month had I not happened to look them up on a torrent site I visit just out of curiosity.
Is the trap crap song 2x Tigers?

They've been on of my favorite bands for 22 years so I was quite aware that it was coming out as soon as it was announced and the title track Screamer was released over the summer.

I've been enjoying the new record. It's clear that Kris is nowhere near the guitarist either Kevin or Tony were but he adds his own thing to the mix.

Not me, this was a total surprise. I've only listened to the album once so far, but there's a lot of electronic crap throughout I'm guessing to sound current. I miss simple music with guitar, bass, drums (& keyboard). I'm wondering how this would be played live. I know the entire album isn't like that, but too much of it is.

I see them live at the end of this month, so hopefully it sounds great.
