Really surprised that Sonic Youth isn't in yet. They are one of those bands that critics jerk off too.

Well, as I was posting from my phone while at work I knew I'd forget worthy nominees, and boy did I miss a worthy nominee. And I'll add another pair that I thought about but forgot to add...

Deep Purple
Iron Maiden
SRV
Thin Lizzy
UFO
The Cure (hate 'em, but they deserve to be in)
The Smiths (see above)

Jethro Tull
Yes
Judas Priest

They're kind of like Motorhead where even if you don't love them, they're generally highly respected by everyone.

I love The Smiths and The Cure but how did The Smiths get nominated first? The Smiths debut album was in 1984 and The Cure's was 1979.

The Cure have been nominated before, most recently in 2012 (but not in 2013).

Neither band was nominated when first eligible. I don't know how they get the nominees, but obviously the support can vary from year to year. Some just take longer than others.

I honestly didn't realize Motörhead or Thin Lizzy were highly respected.

Really?

Both of those bands have been (and continue to be) hugely influential and have put out great music in their sub-genres. The same is true of UFO.

Without Motorhead or Thin Lizzy there would be no Metallica and a ton of other bands for that matter.

I think the B-52's are overdue for the Hall of Fame

I really like UFO, but I suspect the vast majority of hard rock fans probably couldn't name a UFO song or two.

Marc Bolan/T.Rex
is Canned Heat in?
always felt Johnny Winter deserved it
ditto to the inclusion of Steppenwolf
Always felt Tommy James and Shonells deserved it-Hanky Panky, Mony Mony, Crimson and Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Draggin' The Line

You're probably right, but with the Sex Pistols in UFO certainly belongs there given their huge influence on subsequent generations of musicians and their huge success internationally.

Sooner or later they have to, because at the rate they add people, there will be no one else to vote for.

Really tired of seeing Chic on the list. Hasn't Jann Wenner gotten the message yet?

SRV should be a lock. Surprising Lou Reed isn't in there already. The Smiths seems like a decent choice. The rest are snoozers.

The Misfits should be nominated for the next round.
