Who started the on-stage selfie trend?

In the last few years I've seen tons of artists do this, stand with their back to the audience post-gig and take a picture of the crowd:

(this band is Amaranthe, a Swedish symphonic metal band)

It seems to be a relatively new trend, in the last 3-5 years. Anyone know who started it?

^ It's not a selfie if someone not in the picture is the one taking it. That's just called a photo.

Re: Who started the on-stage selfie trend?

I remember watching a video of the Phantom Regiment drum & bugle corps (I think it was PR, maybe another) do a show in the mid-1990s. There was one long, sustained note and the drum major had his arms wide open, his hands curled up and shaking to keep that note going. The crowd in the bleachers was going nuts. Then, while the band kept playing, the drum major turned around to the crowd, pulled out a little disposable camera, and clicked a picture of them.

The crowd went insane.

It was one of the coolest "selfie" moments I've ever seen and, to my knowledge, the first I ever saw, too.

Ok, ok, I screwed up, I should not have said selfie but I can't change the title headline. Let's not get caught up in the damn semantics or this thread will go 3 pages without ever answering the question.

You are not even close. These types of live band pictures have been around for many years. I know Zloz and Halfin were doing them.

It was Children of Bodom if I'm not mistaken.

To answer the original question, it was Giuffria.

Iron Maiden has done it

So has Kiss (look closely, it's them)

I think these types of shots are pretty cool.

Yes, Elize is their singer. She's hot as hell and a capable singer, too. She filled in for Nightwish one night when their singer was sick and did a super job.

She looks great in this video

Maybe so. It just seems to have exploded in popularity recently though. I see them on Blabbermouth every day now.
