Re: SOUNDGARDEN: "Superunknown" 20th Anniversary - 6/3/14

So this is what pisses me off.

In order to have all tracks I have to buy all 3 releases (the 2 CD, the 5 CD, and the 10-Inch Vinyl Set)
because there are tracks exclusive to each release.

I have no problem buying the most uber-deluxe set, just put everything on it.

Sheesh!

It's almost like they're begging people to pirate the stuff.

My Wave is my favorite track off of that album but there's no way I'm getting the set. I'd go for the vinyl stuff but that will be a cluster fuck come record store day.

Why doesn't the blu-ray include the music videos, live performances, documentaries, or interviews? Seems like a missed opportunity.

I remember buying the original vinyl on release date over the CD because it was on Blue Vinyl and had "She Lies Surprises" as a bonus track. I really like the album, but this dues seem like a HUGE amount of stuff to buy to get all the extra tracks.

Wow, you're right. I kind of thought at the very least, everything on the 2 disc set would be contained on the 5 disc, but nope.

Superunknown was the very first CD I ever owned. Excellent album.

I got the blue vinyl as well as the gold vinyl.
I think they also released it as clear, but I'm not sure.

Re: SOUNDGARDEN: "Superunknown" 20th Anniversary - 6/3/14

Soundgarden Vaults: Deluxe 'Badmotorfinger,' B-Sides Album Eyed

With its 20th anniversary editions of the landmark "Superunknown" album about to come out, Soundgarden is eyeballing some more forays into its vaults. Guitarist Kim Thayil tells Billboard that a long-promised compilation of B-sides and non-album tracks, containing some of the bonus tracks featured on the new "Superunknown" packages, will become a reality in the hopefully near future.

"I've been talking about that since the mid-90s -- people still ask me about it in the (online) forums," Thayil notes. "But then the band broke up, and I thought when we got back together four and a half years ago we'd start on that project. But first we did the retrospective best-of (2010's "Telephantasm") and then a live record (2011's "Live on I-5") and then a new album (2012's 'King Animal') came out, and these tours came up and now 'Superunknown's' 20. But the B-sides and all that stuff will be compiled in the future into a separate, stand-alone record."

hayil adds that the group is also talking about a deluxe anniversary edition of 1991's Grammy Award-nominated "Badmotorfinger" album, most likely in 2016.

"We definitely have discussed giving this treatment to 'Badmotorfinger,' for sure," he says. "There are some B-sides, live material, I believe there may be rehearsal material. 'Badmotorfinger' was very influential in the rock community. It had a strong influence on other musicians. 'Superunknown' probably did as well, but it's success was not just with musicians but with fans as well. 'Badmotorfinger' had an impact with listeners but also with guitarists and drummers and singers, people who started bands. It definitely deserves the same kind of treatment we're giving ('Superunknown')."

A complete show from the Badmotorfinger era will suffice.

I loved, loved, loved that album back in the day. Might have to spring for the 2 disc deluxe version.

I'm still undecided, 2 disc or box [that blu-ray is tempting me]...

According to at least one Amazon review, this entire release seems to be brickwalled, even the Blu-ray (at least the 24/96 stereo mix). It's pretty much killed my enthusiasm for picking up ANY of these versions.

It doesn't reflect the vinyl, though. Hopefully someone who has it can post their thoughts on whether it was brickwalled.

Re: SOUNDGARDEN: "Superunknown" 20th Anniversary - 6/3/14

Just a side note there is a podcast on WTF w/ Marc Maron that has about an hour interview with Chris Cornell.

It was pretty good in that he talked about his childhood years into the Seattle scene with Soundgarden. About an hour long of a different side that I am used to reading about (at least for me).

probably just get the 2disc... Amazon had the box at $75 pre-order, then $80 days before it came out then on release date went up $92... Fuck that, they made my choice easy.

I was thinking of upgrading this album but with all those different editions and each having exclusives not available on the other sets they can screw themselves. I'll just keep my original CD.

Even though I am a fan of this album, all I'd be interested in is the 5.1 mix. These deluxe/super deluxe/ super duper deluxe editions that are always being released now are nothing but filler and fluff to me.

By what I remember, the original CD was mastered pretty loud.

LMK what you think of the Blu. Dying to hear it, but a bit to steep for me, especially since I want the vinyl.
