U2 - "Invisible"
U2 is debuting a new song today during a Superbowl spot. If you want to hear the whole thing, iTunes has it available as a free download today.
I think it sounds great! Has a Killers/Joy Division/Pulp vibe to it.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
I've loved and hated U2 so much over the past 12 years that I have a huge sit back and wait approach now. True to form I don't like and love this song at the same time. The chorus is pretty big and nice. When I heard it during the Superbowl I kind of joked with my wife that this new Coldplay song is not too bad.

My wife is one of the biggest U2 fans (we would catch them every time they came through Chicago, even a second time on the same tour), but she was not interested in seeing them last time, partly due to not loving the new album, and the other is that they were playing in Soldier Field which we had seen them play for their Popmart tour and really disliked the venue.
It will be interesting to see how the new album does, they are getting too old to be waiting 4 or 5 years between albums now, and expect to be relevant any more.

The Muse single "Madness" reminds me of something that fell off a U2's 90s-era album.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
U2 is one of my favorite bands of all time, but most of those albums are pre-2000 for me. I'd say Coldplay's A Rush Of Blood and Viva la Vida are vastly better than any album U2 has released since Pop. I've never been a Coldplay hater and dig what Brian Eno has helped them do. For the record, I like this new U2 tune.

And incase you are interested, here is the official video for the video (it's basically the Superbowl spot but extended).

I hope the new album finally comes out this year
It has been a while since No Line on the Horizon in 2009.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
Hopefully U2 went back to the studio understanding that 'No Line on the Horizon' was one of - if not the worst - albums they ever produced. The 'Invisible' single reminds me of songs from 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' and I'm okay with that, considering it was one of U2's better albums from the past 20 years. Hopefully they don't disappoint this go round.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
What is funny is while "Get On Your Boots" was probably their weakest ever single, the album got decent reviews. RS loved it. I think it's like POP, the band ended up distancing themselves from it, once it didn't really take hold with the general fans. I think there was some great parts of it, and some ok parts.
But you are right, Invisible certainly sounds like Beautiful Day Part Two. Which I am ok with. Better than Vertigo Part Three.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
"Magnificent" was one of my favorite U2 songs since 2000. I actually thought No Line was their best album since that year. U2 isn't immune from releasing weak songs as the first single. Wasn't "Numb" a first single?

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
No Line was approximately a million gazillion times better than How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, which was so bad I'm amazed U2 actually released it.
For my money, U2 hasn't done anything truly great since Zooropa (a tragically underrated album), and at this point the most I can hope for it that their new material isn't a complete waste of time.

That was awesome. I kind of wish there were less people on the roof, it looked a little crowded up there, but otherwise that was a really cool live performance and I really, really like the song.

Re: U2 - "Invisible"
How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is a very good album, what are you guys nuts? It's not U2's best album but how can anyone say it shouldn't have been released when it has songs like Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, A Man and a Woman, Crumbs From Your Table, and Original Of The Species? Those are all great. Vertigo and City of Blinding Lights are pretty good too, and the rest isn't offensively bad.
No Line On The Horizon though was just kind of boring all the way through.
