What's with the roll eyes? Do you like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, or Frank Zappa? All brilliant but all acquired tastes. They treat this guy like one of those immortals.

But then again, this is the generation that calls Radiohead the "new" Pink Floyd.

I would think based on his obnoxious presence over the past couple years, the roll eyes would be for someone who says they still like him.

I don't know. Do you get his music or critical appeal? I only know him from his performances at awards shows and stuff and it all just seemed like uninspired, monotone rap. I'm not hearing the innovation. I admit I don't have a large body of experience with it.

My way of saying whatever and I disagree with what you said. and instead of saying something that will get me in trouble I just put that up.

Kanye is very good at this music thing. Better than anyone in the last 10 years IMO. I don't know if you haven't given him a try but you should. If you have and just don't like it that's fine but don't put down others who do like him and put them on their best albums list like you did.

Kanye is the best mainstream rap/hip-hop artist going right now, IMO.

My quote you responded to:

I have yet to comprehend the Kanye West thing.
I don't see any put down of anyone in that quote.

This comment is reflected on how many people have Kanye in their list of best albums and I see that as a little bit of slight/put down to people that had him in their list. Like you don't understand why we have him in our list or something to that effect. I don't know maybe I'm over-thinking it but it just comes off that way to me.

Re: Best Albums of 2013

Not just your lists but all lists, actually. When I see him perform, I don't see the brilliance conveyed in reviews I have read. I admit I haven't put much work into it. I promise to give Kanye West a serious listen, cool?

Yes you really should. You still may not like it and that's fine but at least give it a chance. I'm just now finding out artists that I would never listen to 5-10 years ago. I was strictly a rap/R&B person and now I listen to everything new and old and appreciate it much more now than I ever did.

That's a bold claim that deserves a little debate.

IMO, Kanye:
Great Producer
Terrible Rapper
Terrible Lyricist

Have you ever really looked at the production credits for his songs?
Apart from the few things he may come up with he has a TON of help from others and just samples alot of things. Which makes him a remixer really.

He's still the main person making the music and the concepts.

This is a bold claim that deserves a lot of debate. First terrible rapper and terrible lyricist is basically the same thing. Two he isn't a terrible rapper. A terrible rapper would be Soulja Boy. No he's not Nas or Rakim or one of the greats but he damn sure isn't even close to the worst. He was way better than everyone's favorite rapper Jay-Z on Watch The Throne. Kanye's so far isn't going to be lazy and mail it in like Jay-Z did on that album and has been for years.

Just remembered that I forgot Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse. It was my favorite for the first half of the year, I'm amazed I forgot it...

Cage the Elephant - Melophobia
Grouplove - Spreading Rumors
Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends
Capital Cities - In a Tidal Wave of Mystery

I had to double back to endorse this post. Finally got around to buying this and it's great.

No one should be insulting Radiohead like that! They're not THAT bad!

Yep. That pretty much covers everything they played on alt. rock stations last year. And over. And over. And over. And over again. Ad infinitum.

I kid. But not really.
