I didn't buy much new this year, so I'll just post the one that I thought was the best:

Much better year than last year, IMO. The Foxygen album is far an away the best album for me. They are able to distill so many psych influences and have the chops to pull it off.

2. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - (self titled)
3. The Avett Brothers - Magpie and the Dandelion

Re: Best Albums of 2013
I really didn't buy that much new music this year, and nothing stands out as outstanding for me. Looking at my library, here are my purchases for the year:
Arcade Fire: Reflektor
Mikal Cronin: MCII
The National: Trouble Will Find Me
Phoenix: Bankrupt!
All of them pretty good but not great. I guess I'll give the nod to the National.

Re: Best Albums of 2013
Top 10 albums of 2013
1. Foals - Holy Fire
I knew when I heard this in the beginning of the year it would most likely be my #1. It has a great mix of styles and the Foals have totally found their sound to carry out on future albums. They've come a long way since Cassius.
2. Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
I wish this ended up being a double album, but this is the best thing I've heard from Trent since the Fragile. There is the the one blip of Everything that makes more sense in the album context than a single. I still have no idea why he released that as a single, must of been some record company pressure. Overall the album is dark and sexy, and the new addition of the backing vocals really adds to the genius of the multilayered instrumentation. Also Trent's live presentation of the album was superb.
3. Speedy Ortiz - Major Arcana
This is the best straight ahead rock album of the year and released by Carpark Records. This chick's songs are a dischordal odd mess of awesomeness. No Below could be a huge single if it got real radio airplay. I'm looking forward to seeing them open for Los Campesinos!.
4. Snowden - No One In Control
I think I might even like this album more than Anti-Anti. I think he found the right sound that's perfect for Snowden and his eclectic voice. This is an album I can listen to from start to finish and not skip a song. It's a pretty damn depressing album but has some of the best use of melodies I've heard this year.
5. Popstrangers -- Antipodes
I actually just found this album in December and I instantly put it on my list. Fans of Dead Confederate and Cloud Nothings will feel right at home when listening to this album. This is yet another Carpark Records band, lots of dischordal grungy fun with sloppy Cobain type solos.
6. Wavves - Afraid of Heights
Wavves grew up, production and songwriting took a big leap forward, another one of those albums I can listen to from start to finish.
7. Cage the Elephant- Melophobia
Not as strong as Thank you, Happy Birthday but there are some great songs on here. It's definitely an album I keep going back to, I always look forward to anything these guys release.
8. Russian Circles - Memorial
Their best album since Station, there is some epic heaviness going on this album. Guitar and drum porn for the ears.
9. Flaamingos - Flaaamingos
80's dark wave influenced and good dark song broody songs Joy Divison style.
10. Girls Names - The New Life
Another 80's throwback, this one is more Smiths/Early Cure influenced.
Honorable Mentions
Dead Confederate - In the Marrow
The Weekend - Jinx
Los Campesinos! - No Blues
Future of the Left - How to Stop Your Brain in an Accident
FIDLAR - FIDLAR
The Oh Sees - Floating Coffin
The Arctic Monkeys - AM
The Dodos - Carrier
Savages - Silence Yourself
Baths - Obsidian
Biggest Dissapointments
Yuck - Glow & Behold - The lead singer left and took the soul of the band with him also. Yuck just couldn't pull it off without him.
The National - Trouble Will Find Me - until this band tries something different or makes another Alligator, I am going to continue to lose interest in them.
Placebo - Loud Like Love - come on Brian, your lyrics are ruining the songs.

Re: Best Albums of 2013
Fine, so there's still two releases weeks until the end of the year, but since I doubt there'll be anything of too much interest, here ya go. I'll preface this by saying that more than necessarily being "The Best" albums of the year, even though that might very well be the case, these are at least the albums I enjoyed the most.
Washed Out - Paracosm
Toad The Wet Sprocket - New Constellation
The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law
Jimmy Eat World - Damage
Minor Alps - Get There
Matt Pond - The Lives Inside The Lines In Your Hand
The Winery Dogs - The Winery Dogs
Foals - Holy Fire
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Josh Rouse - The Happiness Waltz
Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project - Devils 'N Darlins
Queens Of The Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
Joe Satriani - Unstoppable Momentum
Rogue Wave - Nightingale Floors
The National - Trouble Will Find Me
Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
Johnny Marr - The Messenger
Mazzy Star - Seasons Of Your Day
Suede - Bloodsports
Kings Of Leon - Mechanical Bull
Eric Clapton - Old Sock
...and against my better judgement, I'm starting to really like ...
Haim - Days Are Gone
Albums I really wanted to like, and while they are by no means bad albums, but just didn't connect with me...
David Bowie - The Next Day
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires Of The City
Phoenix - Bankrupt
Anything else you see missing, I either didn't bother to check out yet (Arctic Monkeys...etc), or just don't care for.
***EDIT***
Ok, I finally listened to Arctic Monkeys - AM, and need to reassess adding it to the list. If I'd spent more time with it before now, I'd likely have been on there already.
Also forgot about ...
Teagan & Sara - Heartthrob
Big Wreck - Albatross, which is kind of a cheat, as it was released in 2012 in the band's native Canada, but didn't see an official Sateside release until this year.

I can't believe its only been mentioned once, so I'll double down on:
Tegan and Sara: Heartthrob. -These two continue to impress me with their releases. They went full radio friendly with this release and I'm glad to see it pay off for them. Their vocal arrangements are always awesome and have the ability to slap my emotions around.
I've been enjoying The Sounds: The Weekend. Been a fan of theirs since Dying to Say This to You.
Also, this was amazing:

Yeah, I agree. I keep going back to this album, it's top rate pop. Also, there's not a bad track on the album, I think almost every song has single potential. I think the "radio friendliness" of the album turned off a lot of people who wanted another "The Con", but I think this is a huge return to form after the slightly off "Sainthood".

Re: Best Albums of 2013
As I mentioned in the Rank 'em As you Hear Them thread, 2013 was a pretty down year for me. Only 4 albums really blew me away, with a lot of middling stuff. I listened to a lot of albums, and was disappointed in a lot. I've still got some 2013 releases to get to and the Year of No Light and ASG albums might make my top 10 list yet, but this is as it stands today.
My list:
1) Tribulation - The Formulas of Death
Death Metal, but the title is a joke. It's anything but formulaic and turns a played out genre on it's ear. Far and away my #1. Nothing else was close.
2) Kongh - Sole Creation [EP]
Progressive Metal with a death influence. No other release on my list was anywhere near this heavy.
3) Anciients - Heart of Oak
Canadian Progressive Metal. Like a Mastodon that really understands song structure. I can't believe this is their first album.
4) Lights & Motion - Reanimation
If you like cinematic Post-Rock, Lights & Motion is your guy. Like Explosions in the Sky x10 (but nowhere near as groundbreaking or influential). No other album moved me this much.
5) Shy, Low - Binary Opposition [EP]
Crescendo core-style post-rock. These kids should be huge, but I'm not sure if they even have a label. Epic bandcamp find for me.
6) Palms - Palms
Chino from Deftones mixed with everybody from Isis besides Bryant Clifford Meyer. Laid back rock with Post-Rock elements.
7) The Ocean - Pelagial
Progressive Metal concept album with a great concept: Pelagial takes on a journey down through the different ocean layers in a way that's both epic and heavy. This was an achievement even though it's not my favorite The Ocean album.
8) MS MR - Secondhand Rapture
New York danceable pop with a dark edge to it.
9) Mammoth Grinder - Underworld
You want D-beats? We got D-Beats. Fast and heavy, although nothing else on the album matches the first two songs.
10) Cloudkicker - Subsume
Ambient, Post-Rock and Progressive Metal mixed in a delightful stew and influenced by the Japanese best-selling novel 1Q84 (which I'm currently reading and finding pretty interesting).
Just missing out, and not in any order:
Leprous - Coal (Experimental Progressive Metal)
Paramore - Paramore (Pop)
Long Distance Calling - The Flood Inside (Post-Rock)
Cult of Luna - Vertikal (Progressive Metal)
Chelsea Wolfe - Pain Is Beauty (Rock/Goth/Darkwave)
Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull (Rock)
Moving Mountains - Moving Mountains (Rock)
Pelican - Forever Becoming (Post-Rock)
Black Trip - Goin' Under (Thin Lizzy Worship)
Russian Circles - Memorial (Post-Rock)
AFI - Burials (Rock)
Miley Cyrus - Bangerz (Shitty Pop that I really love for some reason)

The Wall Street Journal reviewer posted a great list of stuff that I hadn't heard. In particular he recommended: Steve Mason - Monkey Minds in the Devil's Time and Hookworms - Pearl Mystic, both of which I hadn't heard and both of which are flippin' fantastic.
