Failure reuniting for first show in 15 years

From Blabbermouth:

FAILURE, the influential rock outfit which disbanded in 1997, has confirmed what has been rumored in recent weeks: the group has reunited and will play its first live show in over fifteen years on February 13, 2014 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Tickets for the special evening will go on sale this Thursday, November 7 at 10 a.m.

A limited-edition seven-inch single featuring two rarities will be available to the first 250 ticket purchasers at these exclusive outlets: Amoeba Music (6400 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles), Origami Vinyl (1816 W. Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles) and Axs.com.

"Once you put aside all the historical baggage, hype, regrets, etc., there is one truth that remains," explained FAILURE's Ken Andrews. "When we play music together, something happens that is very hard to define and equally difficult to duplicate."

FAILURE formed in Los Angeles in the early '90s and released its debut album, "Comfort", in 1992 via Slash Records. "Magnified" followed in the spring of 1994, with the band's final offering, "Fantastic Planet", seeing the light of day in 1996.

"Fantastic Planet" earned a perfect 5-star score from Alternative Press, with the magazine saying the album was able "to breathe life into the corpse of contemporary, guitar-driven rock," adding that the band was "willing to stretch the definition of both their instruments and their songs."

*********************************

All over this. I love Andrews' music and all of his side projects. This should be incredible.

I remember seeing them open for Tool back sometime in the early 90s. I didn't take anything away from that to ever followup on anything they did.

Not many people seem to be all that hip to them, but I think Fantastic Planet is one of the best albums to come out of the '90s.

I went on YouTube and looked them up. What separates them from all of the other alt-rock and post-grunge bands from that era? Nothing against them since I haven't listened to a full album but they sound very cookie cutter and typical for the time period. A lot of bands from then blend together to me for that reason.

Re: Failure reuniting for first show in 15 years

they're one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time. i'm almost stupid enough to buy plane tix right now and plan a trip... but they'll HAVE to do some kind of tour and come through Austin, i hope.

and for the "cookie-cutter alternative rock" comment, all i can really say is that i can see it not sounding like a whole lot to new ears, especially after this day and age when you've heard so many bands extremely influenced by them. it sucks that so many bands took from their effects-driven, spacey alt-rock sound and became more "successful" in the long run.

You do realize this "tour" is one date, and that in L.A. this will likely sell out very quickly, right?

Well said. There were very few bands who sounded like them when they first came out, but countless others who would after.

I've also quite liked most of what Ken Andrews has done solo, or in other band projects, since, but Failure is still the high water mark.

I read the thread title as someone having tried and failed to set up their reunion show.

Sold out in 30 seconds.

And somehow, I managed to snag two limited vinyl ticket packages.

I was right in the middle of a meeting at work and figured I would just log in later in the morning. Here's to hoping they decide to add a second date due to the demand.

How about a new song! (sorry if the embed doesn't work)
http://failureband.bandcamp.com/releases

This song marks the Failure's first new music since the 1996 release of the landmark album, Fantastic Planet, and arrives as the Los Angeles trio embarks on their first North American tour in seventeen years.

Saw them at Cinquanta and will be attending the Phoenix show. I'm in DC on June 5th so might attempt to hit up the show in MD on that date.

One of my favorite bands!
