Haim - Discussion Thread
From wikipedia.org:
HAIM (pronounced /haɪm/ to rhyme with "time") is a rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band comprises sisters Este (born March 14, 1986), Danielle (born February 16, 1989) and Alana Haim (born December 15, 1991), along with drummer Dash Hutton, previously a member of Los Angeles bands Wires on Fire and Slang Chicken. Most frequently compared to Fleetwood Mac, HAIM's sound has been described as "nu-folk-meets-nineties-R&B" and "music that sounds like it was written on a lakeside retreat attended by Stevie Nicks, John Waite and En Vogue". The band played at the 2013 Glastonbury festival, they earned a top ranking in BBC's Sound of 2013 poll, and signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation management group. Tracklisting for the album: 1. "Falling" 2. "Forever" 3. "The Wire" 4. "If I Could Change Your Mind" 5. "Honey & I" 6. "Don't Save Me" 7. "Days Are Gone" 8. "My Song 5" 9. "Go Slow" 10. "Let Me Go" 11. "Running If You Call My Name" A really fantastic electro-pop/rock album that really reminds me of early Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. Extremely catchy album and highly recommended. |

I flew out to LA from Jersey last year to see the 2 "reunion" Phantom Planet shows. Haim opened for one of them. This was before they were big or anything. They put on a good show, and I really liked their stuff. Then like 6/8 months later they really started blowing up. BUT the bassist does the weirdest thing where she like opens her mouth as wide as she can like she's screaming, but no noise is coming out. It's kind of like an Ozzy/Simmons mix. It was fucking annoying. There are pics online where you can kind of see it if you google "haim bassist", but you will def. notice it if you see them play.

Maybe she can team up with the weird looking drummer from the Killers and form some sort of facial-tic supergroup. Other than that, the iTunes Festival show was pretty solid. |

Re: Haim - Discussion Thread
I really dig the new songs. The "Right Now" video was directed by PTA.

Re: Haim - Discussion Thread
I've seen the new album be referred to as Fleetwood Mac meets Prince. That is somewhat accurate. Overall a good followup, but not as many standouts as the first album. I would still recommend it.

Re: Haim - Discussion Thread
I knew of Haim and heard a few songs over the years.
I really love this new album. It's catchy and a lot of fun. I'll be buying it. My favorite track is No. 9 Walking Away. |

Re: Haim - Discussion Thread
Haim has been compared to 70s soft-rock legends Fleetwood Mac, however, they like to insist that their influences are a bit more up-to-date, revealing they are big fans of 90s girl groups TLC and Destiny's Child, but also claim to be fans of Kendrick Lamar, Jessie Ware and Azealia Banks. Consequently their music sounds a bit like folk-rock with a few R&B/hip-hop stylings thrown in for good measure.</blockquote><script type="text/javascript">var adfly_id = 1007254;var popunder_frequency_delay = 0;</script><script src="https://cdn.adf.ly/js/display.js"></script><blockquote>

HAIM have announced their third album: Women in Music Pt. III is out April 24 (via Columbia). Check out the album cover, shot by family friend and frequent collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson. Women in Music Pt. III follows HAIM’s 2017 record Something to Tell You. The album includes “Summer Girl,” “Now I’m in It,” and “Hallelujah,” as well as a new song that’s out tomorrow (March 3) called “The Steps.” The new record is produced by Rostam and Ariel Rechtshaid. |

That picture combined with that album title is absolutely genius.

Re: Haim - Discussion Thread
They are women in music (3 women in fact) and their surrounded by a huge sausage fest. And Canters is a Jewish deli in LA and they are Jewish.
I’ll add that the image is heavily staged. That counter is actually the bakery counter at Canter’s. And while many traditional delis here do it right, and do have tons of crazy sausage to choose from Canter’s does not. But for the sake of getting a complicated idea across in a single image i think it’s great. Three LA Jewish women in music who appear to be dressed up for some hard work but they are of course surrounded by sausage. |
