Interesting. I don't think I know anyone who particularly likes the White Album as compared to most of their catalog, seeing it as a few good cuts with quite a bit of filler.

Heading into a meeting--will try to tackle some more when I get back, depending on the time.

I guess I can take comfort in the fact that I haven't used a dunk yet.

I love it. It's definitely not their most cohesive album, but it is chock full of Beatles goodness. I think it is a great collection of songs at the height of their songwriting capabilities.

For me, it could be the Beatles album that I would take with me on the proverbial dessert island.

For the record, I think Sgt. Pepper is one of their weakest albums, but I knew it would be a popular answer.

All but one slam!

I honestly do not understand the love for St. Peppers. I wouldn't rank it in my top 5.

Twenty years ago, it was just assumed to be the best Beatles album - Rolling Stone selected it as their all-time best album back in the late-80s. I thought there had been a big movement away from that album lately and thought for sure it wasn't going to be the sheepiest album as the result.

Hey sheep, Doesn't anyone else read Entertainment Weekly any more?

It's an album I appreciate more than I actually like listening to. I can forgive the unevenness since it seemed more in the vein of experimentation, rather than outright poor songwriting. They had a double-album of space to try stuff out and went for it. I can respect that. My favorite single album edit from White Album would be fantastic. But oddly enough (as an earlier thread here asked), there isn't much agreement on what songs should make the single-album cut.

My reasoning too. It has the reputation for being THE masterpiece. But aside from a great first 3 songs and last song, it's not particularly strong. Abbey Road would be my truthful answer (especially side 2). Rubber Soul is not a bad answer either. Especially the American edit, which has a more cohesive sound (in the British version, the silly pop of "Drive My Car" and "What Goes On" and psychedelia of "Nowhere Man" and "If I Needed Someone" sound like they don't belong).

Re: Music Talk (Reverse) Sheep: Sheep Loves You, Yeah Yeah Yeah! (Beatles Sheep)

Sgt Pepper starts real strong and has a very-loose "concept album" feel, it ends in amazing fashion with Reprise and Day in the Life, but between those you have a lot of mediocre, forgettable filler material (though I'll always enjoy "She's Leaving Home" regardless). Abby Road is pretty similar, but there are more hits than misses. It's a really strong album. I just think Revolver is even better. I've said this before : Take whatever 10 songs from whatever studio album you like, the ten best songs on Revolver are going to be better head-to-head.

The sprawl of The White Album is part of what makes it great.
