NPR's All Songs Considered ... and other stuff

I must admit sometimes in the pursuit of trying to find 'new' online music, you don't look for it in the most obvious places.

case in point, I've occasionally heard some recommendations, mini-album reviews, band interviews on National Public Radio's: 'Fresh Air', 'All Things Considered' and it's offshoot 'All Songs Considered'. Suffice to say, online NPR also offers the fun 'Tiny Desk Concerts' (which was done at the first office building here in DC on Mass Ave. and now their new location on N. Capital St. - unfortunately to staff only - BUT... at least they make them available online/podcasts).

Music concerts, sets from various venues, including the 9:30 Club also wind up for viewing/a listen via NPR.

As for 'All Songs Considered' - they play music 24/7 as well as produce a weekly podcast - to say it's eclectic would be an understatement - but giving it a listen this afternoon - I'm shocked as to how much new music I haven't heard.

anyhow, if you haven't given any of these shows a listen before, give it a shot!

I hadn't heard of (or at least paid enough attention to notice before) All Songs Considered before. Thank you!

i get turned on to the majority of new music i investigate through NPR. Don't know if that indicates they showcase a wide range of music or that i lead a very sheltered life.

i have their music page saved off, open it when i come online and check out the articles, who did a tiny desk concert, what song various public radio music directors like.

if you happen to like a certain artist, sometimes they have a wealth of material by them. Case in point, i really like sharon van etten. they have a number of live shows she has done over the course of a few years, in one place. most are even downloadable.

the only thing that pissed me off, is they use some weird video program my computer doesn't recognize, so i cant always view video.

NPR Music is far, far too hit and miss for me to follow it on a weekly basis. But their "Favorite" posts are always worthwhile:

NPR has pretty good taste in selecting the right artists to promote.
