Ed Sheeran
Do you like him or hate him?
Flavor of the month and destined to join James Blunt and Daniel Powter and be quickly forgotten or is this the beginning of a productive career? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/NEqY0eY1_vQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: Ed Sheeran
I cant really say as all I have heard is from the radio and youtube, but what I have heard I like.
This one is probably my favorite of his: |
Re: Ed Sheeran
I like The A Team, though the rest of + is hit and miss for me. It's kind of an eclectic album.
When Sheeran appeared with Elton on the Grammys, my friend's kid who's a Sheeran fan asked "Who's that old guy ruining Ed Sheeran's song?" |

Re: Ed Sheeran
+ is ok, but mostly miss. He has a great career ahead of him as a songwriter though.

Re: Ed Sheeran
I think Taylor recommend him to Selena Gomez as a boyfriend.

Ed Sheeran and his killer new Rock song
Someone posted this song on another board, and I clicked on it because of the question asked about it. (Which KISS song does this sound like?)
I didn't expect much because, well, it's Ed Sheeran. Pop guy. And then the riff started and I was quite impressed. (It actually sounds like a riff I wrote around 1999, so it's a pretty standard issue, obvious riff that is elevated by a great performance and a fantastic groove here, as well as some good vocal melodies.) I don't know what you think, but as a hard core Hard Rock fan (one who appreciates funk and a good groove in a Rock song) I really dig it. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/s93NCuXt7x4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> No one's going to call this a great song, lyrically, but so what? It's a great ROCK song with a killer groove and catchy vocal melodies. |
Re: Ed Sheeran
He is still around and probably stronger than ever
This song is pretty good |
Re: Ed Sheeran
I like about half of the songs on his new collaboration album that came out yesterday. The song with Eminem and 50 Cent and the one with HER are pretty good

Re: Ed Sheeran
I don't like him but 40 year old housewives need something to listen to. You can only listen to so much Bon Jovi before you need a break.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
I like him but I'm a 41-year-old married woman

Maybe every song from his new album is going to be a hit

Re: Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran found Not Guilty of Copywrite infringement in composing "Thinking Out Loud". It always felt like a dubious claim. I can't really hear anything all that similar in "Let's Get It On".

Re: Ed Sheeran
There are only so many chord progressions in the world. It will be interesting to see if lawsuits like this continue to increase as more and more musicians go back to the same well.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
Robert Johnson's heirs should sue every musician that has ever picked up a guitar.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
The one lawsuit I kept waiting for but never got filed with John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" which seems like a total rip-off of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" as it has the same melody, rhythm, and a very similar theme even (though with kind of the polar-opposite message).

Re: Ed Sheeran
That's great news.
Now Robin Thicke should appeal. |
Re: Ed Sheeran
I'd even give Thicke a pass, and I spent a really weird amount of time A/B-ing those two tracks. A funky time, but weird.

And to be very familiar, I had to watch the uncensored Blurred Lines video many times, to familiarize myself with it. :D |
Re: Ed Sheeran
Rick Beato states in that video that Thinking Out Loud is far closer to Let's Get It On than Blurred Lines is to Got To Give It Up.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
Well, I just listened to the first 90 seconds of that song (rather than the brief sample clip) and I can say that if I'm deliberately thinking of the Marving Gaye song simultaneously, I can understand that there is a mild similarity. One that I wouldn't have intuited had this suit not been brought.

Re: Ed Sheeran
He won the lawsuit and now he can dance with his eyes closed
He will continue to put out the hits, |
Re: Ed Sheeran
Ed's tour crew is apparently incompetent. They weren't able to set up the stage in Allegiant Stadium today, kept fans waiting outside the gate for almost an hour after doors were supposed to open, in 100 degree heat, many passing out. Then postponed the show until the end of October at the last minute, literally minutes before scheduled Showtime. What a disaster.

Re: Ed Sheeran
His concert at Santa Clara had more people than Swift and Beyonce because of how they configured the stage for more viewing angles and thus more ticket sales.

Re: Ed Sheeran
Ed will be performing live tonight on Amazon Prime after TNF.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
but Sheerhan did not have the big screens that block or obstruct the view like Swift and Beyonce did or he would not have beaten their ticket sales.
|
Re: Ed Sheeran
He has a theater in the round presentation and a floor full of GA admission. I am eternally grateful neither Beyoncé nor Taylor did that, as I find GA "seats" totally awful, and in-the round presentations mean you're looking at the singer's back a lot, no matter how great your seats are.
And he DIDN'T "beat" Taylor's sales in Levi's. She performed two shows with an average of 58,000 per night. Ed set a single show record at nearly 80,000. But last I checked 116,000 is bigger than "almost 80,000". |
Re: Ed Sheeran
He is back with another global banger.
