The National -- "Trouble Will Find Me" -- May 20, 2013
When asked about the album, Aaron Dessner, the guitarist, said "our ideas would immediately click with each other. It's free-wheeling again. The songs on one level are our most complex, and on another they're our most simple and human. It just feels like we've embraced the chemistry we have."
Track listing
1. "I Should Live in Salt"
2. "Demons"
3. "Don't Swallow the Cap"
4. "Fireproof"
5. "Sea of Love"
6. "Heavenfaced"
7. "This is the Last Time"
8. "Graceless"
9. "Slipped"
10. "I Need My Girl"
11. "Humiliation"
12. "Pink Rabbits"
13. "Hard to Find"

Really looking forward to this. Boxer is one of my favorite albums. I didn't like High Violet as much, but they brought me back with their song from Win Win (really, it was criminal that they didn't even get an Oscar nomination).

I'm beyond excited about this release. The National are one of my favorite bands, and I absolutely loved High Violet along with pretty much everything else they have put out. I've traveled to see them before, and I'm considering doing it again since they don't have a Nashville date yet. They are absolutely amazing live.

Stoked to hear the announcement. They've yet to put out an album that I didn't love. I can't believe it's already been three years since High Violet. I've seen them live twice (2005 & 2011) and both were excellent shows.

Dear God this is awesome news. I had no idea they'd already have a record out by May.
I saw them with Arcade Fire right when High Violet came out.....awesome show.

Re: The National -- "Trouble Will Find Me" -- May 20, 2013
Three things about The National:
They write songs that are extremely close to my thoughts and worldview. Even when the song is about post-nuclear holocausts or becoming a zombie, it's still steeped in hard-won wisdom and admirable cynicism. They also have a great sense of humor which is often missed.
Their songs and albums are a slow burn and have extremely high replayability. They're subtle, uncluttered and elegant songs that build power the more you listen to them. Sometimes I really like an album on first listen but then gradually realize that it's crap. This never happens with The National.
They are great live. Truly amazing.

So is there a first single from this album floating around anywhere? Or does anybody know what it is?

And don't forget about their cover of the Thanksgiving song from Bob's Burgers. (So out of left field it's awesome.) It's a new holiday standard!

Am I the only one who has trouble with the lead singers husky sing/talk voice. I like a lot of their stuff but haven't fallen in love with the band because of Matt Berringer's vocal style which I find... I don't know robotic? Emotionless?

With me, I usually LOVE half the tracks on their records, and discard the other half.

The National still hold the title to the loudest show I've ever been to. Twice.
"When I walk into the room, I do not light it up. Fuck." Love that line.

Good news for anyone who loves the National and has a solid six hours to kill: The band are taking part in a show at MoMA PS1 in New York, in which they will perform a six hour-long rendition of their song "Sorrow" from High Violet. Yes, they will be performing the same song for six hours straight.
It's a collaboration with Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, and the work is titled "A Lot of Sorrow".
The performance takes place in PS1's VW Dome. In a newsletter, the band writes, "you'll have a chance to watch us perform for a few minutes at a time, but the audio will be audible in the courtyard, so you can hear what happens as we play 'Sorrow' again and again and again."
"By stretching a single pop song into a day-long tour de force the artist continues his explorations into the potential of repetitive performance to produce sculptural presence within sound," says MoMA.
The show takes place May 5 from noon until 6 p.m.-- find more information here. http://momaps1.org/calendar/view/439/

Thanks, musick. Now we're getting somewhere. Got a couple of studio singles and those two high quality live performances.
Nice.
