Re: The VINYL Thread!
Import cd's is an eBay seller. They have about 35 thousand records as part of a deal where if you spend $60 or more its 20% off your entire order. Then like Geofferson said, eBay puts out a 15-20% off your entire order coupon every month or so. And when that happens you can stack the 2 coupons.

I heard a rumor import CDs is buying Sound Stage Direct. Apparently they have gone under and left people to file disputes for undelivered high end stereo equipment and records. The order i mentioned previously is in dispute with PayPal.

I had no idea you could double dip like that. Next ebay coupon and importcds dual deal pops up, can someone please bump this thread or create a new one notifying us?

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Whenever I hear about somebody moving and having to pack up all their records I think of the scene in the Crumb documentary when the movers were carrying out god knows how many of Robert's records for his move from the US to France. And he had tons of 78's, those suckers are heavy and fragile. Luckily he could afford to hire professionals.

When import cd's is running their deal all you have to do is add enough sale items to your cart (last time 35,000 lp's were viable for this deal, and once you add one to your cart it takes you to a search engine for all the vinyl that qualifies) until you hit a certain price point (usually 60 bucks) whereupon 15-20% is automatically taken off your total. Then during checkout when it prompts you to put in a coupon code, you enter the Ebay coupon code that is circulating and you get another 15-20% off. Both depending on what the deal currently is. Last time I did it, it was 20% from Import and 15% off from eBay. Every once in awhile you get lucky and its 20 and 20%.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Thanks for the heads up. Was able to use the sale and code where I got 3 cds for $10 each when they're usually listed everywhere online for $14-$15. If you're able to, please let us know when a sale like this pops up. There's a bunch more I wanted to order, but the way the importcds code worked, I kept getting screwed unless I bought items that were all the same price, which is hard to do.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
If you guys are into REALLY great sounding vinyl (and enjoy folk music), check out Gillian Welch's recently re-released on vinyl albums "Soul Journey" and "The Harrow & The Harvest", both are analog all the way, and sound freaking remarkable on vinyl, like a revelation! Warm, rich; all the best adjectives for a well-recorded, well-mastered vinyl apply to these. The only negative is that since they're relatively quiet, acoustic records, you might hear more surface noise, and crackle than you would on louder more electric albums.

I've heard of her but never heard her stuff. Is there an album between the two that you prefer?

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I finally picked up the monster Metallica Master of Puppets box set, which includes the original album and a double live album on vinyl plus a crapload of other media. Can't wait to spin it, I've only owned MOP on CD and cassette in the past.

They're both pretty different. While both albums are the same genre, SJ is more of a full band with some electric guitars, while H&H is a far more stripped down acoustic affair. Check out samples on youtube or amazon to get an idea - but of course you won't get the sound quality there.

If you don't have it, I would just add it to your basket to watch the price. It took a while, but it finally did drop.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Ok-I am back buying vinyl again.
Just ordered:
Fleetwood Mac's GH
CCR 20 GH
Eagles GH 1971-75
I need recommendations for my next 100 dollar spending on LPs.
Interested mostly in classic rock but can basically listen too anything except rap and country & western.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Maybe you guys will appreciate this little story.
I've recently been on a Cars kick, after seeing them on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction show. I'd already had Candy-O (which in itself is one of the prides of my collection, as I bought it a few years ago, a 1979 Columbia House pressing, but still factory sealed), and at some used stores picked up Panorama and Shake it Up fairly cheap. Wasn't in a major hurry to get the first record, since I already had it on CD.
Anyway, last week I was at another favorite used store, and they had a copy for $6. Looked in ok shape, figured it was worth it. Drop the needle on it, and dead silence before the Good Times Rolled. Now, if any of you are collectors of older records, you know that a 40 year old record is gonna have a bit of noise on it. I even looked at the back cover to make sure I hadn't picked up a recent re-issue or something. Nope, original 1978 copy. It's all the more impressive when you consider that everyone had this record back in the day, so any copies you find in a junk shop have probably been played at parties, brought to high school, lent to friends to make a tape copy (c'mon, who didn't do that?), had coke snorted off of the jacket in college, etc. But no, this was just CLEAN.
I even went back to the store to thank the owners, and they said that that record in general always sounds really good due to the production and pressing. So, if you're even a casual fan of The Cars, buy a copy and give it a listen. I mean the original release, not the digitally re-mastered re-issue.
