Re: The VINYL Thread!

Amazon UK finally shipped out that Dead or Alive vinyl set today via UPS and they say to expect it Friday. Here's hoping it makes it on that day.

Just curious, how does this work? Do you keep the record in its paper sleeve behind the LP jacket within the plastic sleeve? Assume this helps you play them without getting the jacket in and out each time.

Yes, I keep the inner liners behind the outer jacket in the outer plastic. This not only is more convenient, but also prevents ring wear on the artwork.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Finally got a response from Popmart about my Kinks order (had to message them through their facebook page). For some unbeknownst reason, it didn't ship out (probably because they sold out of the Kinks set before they got to my order). But they got more in this week, and they're upgrading my shipping to free overnight to make up for it. So we'll see...

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My Dead or Alive vinyl boxed set arrived yesterday. Too bad one of the albums had a mis-press - instead of DOA it had Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The record company knows about it and will be issuing replacements through retailers. I opened up a report with Amazon UK and they referred it to their product team. A slight bummer to an otherwise bomb ass set.

Congrats!

If you're looking for a record brush, I actually prefer the In The Groove record cleaner. It looks like a lint roller but it's very effective at getting out dust I only use a brush now if there's some particularly determined piece of dirt that the ITG cleaner can't get.

I saw someone complaining it left residue. Have you ever noticed that?

No, I've never noticed that. If it's something you're concerned about, a standard vinyl brush will serve you well too.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Got my Kinks set!

After contacting me, and as a way to apologize for "missing" my order, they sent it out overnight, and I was in Kinks heaven all weekend. No damage to the box, and after my OCD routine (trading out the sleeves for nice poly-lined ones, and putting plastic covers over the outer sleeves), I couldn't be more stoked!

My other vinyl with the order was the Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes Live at The Greek limited white vinyl.

I was actually at those shows - pretty cool to have a limited edition vinyl of a recording you were at!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Very nice! I have that Page/Crowes set too.

Out of curiosity, you put plastic sleeves on the Kinks LPs? Do you not use the box?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Yeah, plastic sleeves on each separate LP - just keeps the jackets from wear/tear, even in the box, as I slide them in and out.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Cool, have to try that. Didn't realize they'd still fit in the box.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Guess it depends on the size of the sleeves - the ones I'm using are pretty snug (one just barely fits the double black-album), also, I have so many of them, I'll never run out any time soon, so I may as well use them. But there's plenty of extra space in that Kinks box, not so much on the sides, but enough to squeeze in one more album, so I slid in my old vinyl copy of this:

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I did the same with my Kinks box, replaced the inner sleeves and used other sleeves on all. Plenty of room in the of box for that. Supposedly the same with the Beatles vinyl boxes. The Bowie box I got does not have enough space for that though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Kinks set dropped to $159.99 on amazon. Had it sitting in my cart for a while and decided to final jump on it at that price, plus used a gift card to drop lower. Pretty excited for it based off the reviews here.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

So they're re-issuing Paul Weller's first 4 solo albums on vinyl, which have been out of print since the mid/late '90s, and even then, they had a very low print run - all 4 of the albums are more than awesome, but I'm only getting my favorite of the 4; Stanley Road.

But what's weird are the discrepancies in prices and dates.

On amazon-US, it's $22, releases on 1/20

but on amazon-UK, it's almost $40, releases on 2/24

What gives?

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me - Will go on sale Jan 25th at Mondo.

A bunch of Drafthouse locations will be showing the film that week, along with the option to buy the soundtrack with your ticket.
