They sell direct. I think they have changed a few things recently. Maybe a new tone-arm?

Yes, a new and improved tonearm is now standard on all new tables they sell.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I didn't get an Orbit, but I have a Teac TN 300 which seems adequate enough for a decent turntable. Audio Technica LP 120 is another one which people seem to like. I was a bit disappointed to find you can't turn off the internal pre-amp though even when it's switched off. Only way to do it is to take it out. Teac isn't like that.

Out of curiosity, how do you guys clean your records? I saw the spin clean system and I'm not sold on the idea really. I don't understand how it doesn't get the labels wet. I have one of these which I'm happy with:

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My UK boxed set of Dead or Alive's discography has shipped! $150. It's their entire catalog remastered in 180gram clear vinyl and 2 of their albums are being released for the first time on the format. They should be here within 2 weeks since they're being shipped via Asendia. Man, I really hate that fucking service.

I now have a different method, but I used the Spin Clean for years. 99% of labels won't get damaged by the water, as long as you dry them off after cleaning. The only records that I had issues with were some old classical titles, with a chalk-like paper label.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I was at a local shop today and saw they had a sealed promo copy of Prince's Parade, which I promptly bought. Now I'm debating if I should open it. I already have a copy of Parade but it's not in the best condition. I've never been a buy to resell guy, but it's not often I come across a relatively valuable record that's still sealed either.

Thanks for the info. What method are you using now?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The Kinks set arrived from popmarket. Packaging was a joke - it was just stuck in a tight box with no packing materials around it so it got dented on the corners of course. Set looks really nice otherwise.

Bah! I haven't even gotten shipping confirmation yet (if they give one - I assume they do).

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Yep it just arrived and my Kinks was dented. Not going to hassle with it. Unless they just start giving partial refunds and I don't have to send it back ... too much stuff going on.

Our offer was accepted on a condo close to my wife's work. Inspections are still imminent so it isn't a done deal. All I can think about is the brick wall that would be behind my speakers. What's that going to do to the sound?!?! Pretty sure the neighbors have a brick wall too so they shouldn't be disturbed anyway. Went to Best Buy Magnolia and saw they have these sound dampener things for a wall. Also had the new. PI Shinola Runwell TT. NICE!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

It's been an insanely expensive fourth quarter for vinyl. I grabbed most of the Dylan MFSL releases plus some Analogue Productions releases and others. There's the Stones box, the Kinks box, the Tom Petty boxes, the Zappa reissues. I've had to pass on a lot.

I think there's a pretty good chance it will be unfortunately. My albums were okay, except the Black Album which got dog eared a bit. When I got the Beatles Mono, Queen Studio Collection, Jam box, etc. they came in factory packaging with foam holding it in the center of the box. That's how these sets should be sent. Not sure if I really want to order from popmarket again after this.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My Kinks box still hasn't shipped, but I did order a couple other vinyls along with it, so I hope it's better packaged than if I had only gotten the Kinks set.

When I get the Queen box-set, they sent it as it was packed at the factory, which foam around all corners and it arrive pristine, but then that's the most premium top of the line box set I've ever seen - they really pulled out all the stops for the Queen set, including factory shipping-packaging.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Just got my Kinks set. It's in nearly perfect condition, just a minor tear at one corner, too slight for me to bother with replacements. Haven't had a chance to listen to any yet, that will come later today.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Meanwhile, I also today received three Dylan MoFi titles from Music Direct, who are supposed to have great packaging, and the outer jackets of all three titles are split open at the bottom. Really disappointing.
