Yikes. That be an expensive set! I thought the Bob Dylan Basement tapes set was expensive. Whew!

Have a few drinks on the house there!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Are these Beatles reissues better than the original mono US releases? I pretty much refuse to give Paul McCartney any more of my money.

Supposedly these are the best they've ever sounded.

Speaking of special edition releases - Kavinsky, who is featured on the Drive soundtrack, has a limited edition of his LP release, with a book, etc. It's limited to 4500 copies.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

A couple of soundtracks being released. I believe both are out in November.

Tom Petty's She's the One reissue. This is one of my favorite Petty albums.

Clerks soundtrack. First time on vinyl. Music on 3 sides. An etching on the fourth.

Urban Outfiitters has the Banks exclusive custom red marble edition. It's $26. I thought about it but you reallycan't go wrong for the regular edition that Amazon is selling for $12.69.

Here's the UO version:

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My wife is amazing. She bought me the Beatles set. We were in the store listening and she snuck over to the register and bought one. Later she handed me the receipt. I was in shock. Completely in shock. About to fire it up.

Of course later she casually mentions how nice it would be to be surprised with a neutral color expensive designer purse.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Oh wow, just full and rich. Big soundstage. Crisp instruments.

Keep in mind I don't have a mono cartridge, I don't have a mono switch, nothing. And it's still incredible.

For the first time I am going in order of release to listen. Never did that with the 2009 cd sets and only bought 3 of the stereo LPs. Which were iffy for me.

I found my mom a cheap pre amp and took back my Pioneer integrated. It does mono and I may try and set a mono system up in the next few months.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I got some goodies recently. All original.

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks (green label - perfect near mint vinyl and cover)
Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece ( this is hard to find for some reason)
Rolling Stone - Satanic Majesty's... (a beauty, like it was never touched)
Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Miles Davis - On The Corner
Miles Davis - Nefertiti
Miles Davis - Miles Ahead
Miles Davis - Water Babies
Miles Davis - E.S.P.

I must have like 30 Miles' albums now.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Sacred Bones will be dropping a deluxe LP for the score to Eraserhead tomorrow. Includes a 16-page booklet and, presumably, other goodies.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Picked up a clean pressing of ZZ Top's first album over the weekend at a garage sale for $3 (it's literally called 'ZZ Top's First Album' for those that don't know). Was tracking down for a while. Been on a ZZ kick as of late with their early blues-rock stuff so this couldn't have come at a better time.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I got the Beatles Mono set. I love it. I had the mono CDs, and the vinyl is better--the sound, the experience. I recommend getting this set.

Unless I'm overlooking it, I think Tue's release is the CD only. I don't see the LP mentioned anywhere.

If you click on the cover and go to the release's page, there's an option for CD or Vinyl.

...unfortunately, Vinyl comes up as sold out. That's probably why only CD is mentioned on the home page.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The Eraserhead vinyl was released in 2012 and sold out quite quickly if I remember correctly (limited to 1000 copies). Great set... finally getting a CD release, likely to capitalize on the Criterion release coming out on 9/16.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Picked up the new Hamilton Leithauser (The Walkmen) last night at his show. He was selling his own merch ("My guys already left!") and he was wasted. Nice enough to chat and sign my copy although it's mostly scribbles.

Welcome to the club!

My set was pretty much perfect but when I got to Sgt Peppers, it had some scuffing. Didn't affect the sound that I can tell.

I really want an Abbey Road now. Maybe I will just get the reissue.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

So....dumb question. Why don't you just buy the mono albums separately? Seems like an expensive book. I picked up a few of them but I have way too many copies of these albums to out another few hundred towards new copies regardless of how awesome they sound.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I agree sorta in regards to the price but not for the no matter how good they sound part. These are really phenomenal.

And the box is impressive in itself. I'm happy to have it on my shelf.
