Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (2013)

Anybody else listen to this album yet? I kinda love it. It's not even remotely what I expected... very much techno-pop flavor, but not exactly in a bubblegum way.

Re: Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (2013)

I listened to it the other day when Rolling Stone was streaming the whole album. Overall I really enjoy it. Its a different sound than the earlier T&S albums, but that is their goal. They wanted to make a pop-type album and they succeeded, IMO. Closer is a good lead-off single, but for me the best tracks of the album are the three to close it out, Now I'm All Messed Up, Love They Say, and Shock to Your System.

I haven't heard them before, but I really dig that single.

You might also like this single that they contributed to from Morgan Page.

Or this one with Tiesto

Though if you start checking out more of their work, which I recommend, note that earlier albums aren't like Heartthrob (the current release) and the 3 videos posted in this thread. Their earlier stuff was more a more vocal and guitar indie based sound and less of a pop sound.

Definitely like both of those as well, especially the Morgan Page collab.

Re: Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (2013)

Like everyone has said, different from their earlier albums, but I think I kinda like this, would need to listen more.

I`m kinda embarrassed about the way I first discovered Tegan and Sara. It would have been around 2004 and I saw a clip on Limewire of a porno girl named Tegan. I really liked her, and got excited when I found another Limewire clip titled `Tegan and Sara`, but when I downloaded it, it turned out to be a music video for ``Living Room``. I always wonder, if I told the girls this story, would they find it cute or repulsive.

That story makes me uncomfortable, Crocker.

Also, love Tegan and Sara, but their last album was a bit of a letdown for me. I'll give the new one a spin.

It's still available for streaming on the Rolling Stone site if you want to listen before buying.

And the MP3 download of the album is $5 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...fb_s_dm_mhefih

I dig it.

I always liked this Toro Y Moi remix of Alligator Tears:

Re: Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (2013)

Listened to it through twice this morning, I really like it. It's a very short album, less than 40 minutes. It has a compressed, electronic and dense pop production, as others have said. The songs are really strong and the album is consistant. Overall, this is a big improvement over their last one, IMO.

I wouldn't say it was an improvement as much as I would that it's equally good. I quite enjoyed the last album.

A fun album... doesn't need much description beyond that imo. Don't know where it falls for me compared to the others.... too soon to try and rate it.

Re: Tegan and Sara - Heartthrob (2013)

Bummed they went techno-pop on this one. Oh well, I saw the writing on the wall after the last album. Glad they are getting more popular though.

Have you listened to the new album?

As someone who loves a lot of their previous work (never really got into Sainthood) I have to say that this album is unmistakably Tegan and Sara. Yes ... the production is glossier and poppier ... but the songs are in no way Katy Perry or Lady Gaga. I don't get what some people's problem is.

I LOVE the new album!

Change.. A lot of the complaint is probably from people that still want them to sound like their first albums. Artists change. As you said, the new album is slick in its production and a lot poppier than their previous stuff. But, its still Tegan and Sara. Its why artists sometimes have a hard time gaining new fans while appealing to old fans. If they keep putting out music that sounds the same, there will be complaints that they all sound the same and don't do anything different. Then, if they do put out a different sound, they get criticized for changing their sound.

I've listened to the album 4 times so far and it keeps getting better. Sure, some of the charm of them playing a guitar and singing is gone. But the lyrics and vocal style are still there. The last three songs on the album are my favorite, with Now I'm All Messed Up being my top song of all 10.

I'm digging "Drove me Wild" which is just about the horniest song I've ever heard a girl sing. Too bad they play for the wrong team for me.

So far, that's my favorite song.

Yes, otherwise I would not have commented on it.

It's probably bad I saw them back in the late 1990s before their first real CD came out.

The fact that you describe it as "techno-pop" would lead me to believe that you haven't listened to it at all.

Regardless of semantics, it still not a good album to me and I am disappointed in it. God forbid someone have a different opinion.

I agree. Some people are just scared of anything synth-oriented. There is NOTHING Katy Perry/Lady Gaga ish on this album. I can't stand those two, yet this album is fine with me.

Not liking it is your prerogative... but when you start putting it in the same category as Katy, Gaga and Britney simply because you're not a fan of pro-tools and keyboards, then expect people to defend it. There is a vast difference between Tegan and Sara's album and the watered down mainstream top 40 those other three put out.
