You're probably right. I hated her Video Games song, so I never bothered with the rest. |
Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
My biggest disappointment was Jeff Lynne's "Long Wave". So boring, and what the heck happened to his voice? At least I've got reissues with bonus material to look forward to apparently. :)

Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
I'm willing to give it a few more listens but the Fiona Apple album leaves a lot to be desired.

Oops - meant to post in best albums thread, not worst ! :)

The Sword - Apocryphon
Just boring, really. The only track I find myself jamming with it the title track, which is the last one on the album. It's like they got into a groove and became stuck there; the album is a midline, middling bore. |
Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
Band of Horses - Mirage Rock
Justin Townes Earle - Nothing's Going to Change The Way You Feel About Me Now fun. - Some Nights Tennis - Young & Old No Doubt - Push and Shove |
Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
Rush Clockwork Angels......im usually always into their albums but I skipped through the cd at the store and I felt no need to get it right away.

Yep, I'd add these two to my list for the same reasons. As well as ...
Ben Folds Five - The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind, for also just being kind of "mehw", after the long absence of a Ben Folds Five release.

Grizzly Bear - Shields - I really liked their earlier stuff and this one initially sounded good. The more I listened, the more it descended into indie-rock bullshit, pretention and pointless noise. Get over yourselves, guys.
All electronica - I didn't hear a single good electronica album this year. Alabama Shakes - Boys and Girls - came into this year on a tidal wave of hype as a live act. As for electronica? I am guessing you didn't pick up Fin. If you did, then our tastes are so far apart I can't continue this conversation. ;) And I agree on Boys and Girls. Really want to see these guys live but that album was a sleeping pill.

Band of horses was the first band I thought of when I read the thread title. I love every cd of theirs up until this one. I listened to it once and forgot about it.

Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, MAAD City - probably the most critically acclaimed record of the year. I was looking forward to hearing it. I don't get it. Sophomoric, supposedly clever, sarcastic-but-not-really "gangsta" cliches over tired beats. Tried to get through the whole thing four times, gave up. Get over yourselves, guys. All electronica - I didn't hear a single good electronica album this year. This is not for lack of trying. Everything from experimental (Flying Lotus) to dance-oriented (Boys Noize) to indie-pop electronica (Dan Deacon) let me down. The entire genre (if you can call it that) just seems stalled and exhausted. Also, dubstep sucks. Edit: just heard Memory Tapes "Grace/Confusion" which came out last week. First good electronic album of 2012 I've heard. Alabama Shakes - Boys and Girls - came into this year on a tidal wave of hype as a live act. Supposedly Drive-by Tuckers Southern gothic with a heavy classic soul influence. Right up my alley, I thought. Instead what I heard was a bland Black Crowes-style roots rock LP with a generic blues belter on vocals. A perfectly boring record. You should check out Julien-K's "We're Here With You" album. They're electronica infused rock. Julien K's first album was miles better than their sophomore effort. Just IMO.

I have it and enjoy it, but I like them equally. The first one was more industrial and less trance. |
Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
The Killers - Battle Born
Muse - The 2nd Law B.o.B. - Strange Clouds (really liked the title track but that's it) Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor II The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1 Linkin Park - Living Things The Ting Tings - Sounds from Nowheresville |
Re: Most Disappointing Albums of 2012
You guys are harsh. Living Things and Some Nights were great albums.

Well, it's somewhat comforting to know I was not alone in my disappointment of Band Of Horses. Seems like quite a few of us were.

A perfectly boring record. the best 'dance' albums of the year for me, were from The Egg, Hot Chip and 2Bears (Hot Chip's Joe Goddard's 'house' sounding band), as for the Boys Noize album, the end song with Snoop Dogg really marred the album IMO. Even the new album from Orbital - was a return to form and welcome return for their fanbase. |

No way, man. Some Nights is terrible in comparison to Aim and Ignite. Far less blatantly unnecessary use of autotune on that older album.

I've listened to the 2nd law about 20 times. I just can't get into it. It's not a good record.
