Yeah I just became aware of this album too. Fantastic stuff. I've been listening to that and Emitt Rhodes for the first time.

There's still great music I haven't heard before.

I didn't. I bought it and promptly forgot its boring, derivative sound.

Re: Best Albums of 2012

The Rolling Stone top 50 is in the latest issue.

They have my #1 (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) at #7.

Of course, they have Bruce Springsteen as #1.

And they inexplicably have the Avett Brothers 30 spots below Mumford and Sons (yawn, they are a boring one-trick English version of the Avetts), and BEHIND Taylor Swift.

I wouldn't mind being behind Taylor Swift.

Have to agree with you about Mumford and Sons. We have dozens of bands in the US that do watered down Americana/bluegrass better. Their parlor trick seems to be that they're English.

Lana Del Ray "Born to Die" album is probably my favorite of the year. Runner up: The Lumineers

Of that list, I've heard of Jack White, Rush, and Deftones.

Like I said, I'm out of touch.

Jack White, Rush, and Dinosaur Jr were half the list. And they are all pretty old.

That's only because I accidentally listed Dinosaur Jr twice.

Haven't heard Enter Shikari, Memphis May Fire or the latest Islands, but the rest, except the Metric album, will be in my top 20 this year. Great year for indie/underground/non-mainstream rap, including Busdriver, Oddisee, and Cadence Weapon's releases.

Re: Best Albums of 2012

I saw Enter Shikari with Falling in Reverse (took my daughter) ... I thought they were pretty good.

Best album of the year for me is Van Halen. Just an awesome record.

Keane - Strangeland
Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

Re: Best Albums of 2012

Anyone else think that "Channel Orange" is massively overrated?
There are definitely a few standout tracks but TONS of filler.

I enjoyed his "Nostalgia, Ultra" mixtape a lot more, honestly.

Re: Best Albums of 2012

The correct answer is Redd Kross: "Researching The Blues" with Bob Mould "Silver Age" as a close second.

Those are also my favorite albums of the year.

I do think it's overrated, but I still liked it more than his mixtape. I listen to about three or four songs off of Channel Orange, with Lost being my favorite.
