Coldplay announce hiatus until 2016
The band announces a hiatus from "big shows" for three years at a gig in Brisbane:

This is good news. The band needs to reboot. Their last two albums have been a bit unfocused.

this coming from a band I remember reading were going to call it quits after their first album release...
all power to them though. It seems like the life of musicians (famous ones) can take extended hiatus - unlike some of us working folk - ahhh, ain't life grand.

I'm fine with that. The truth is that they are starting to turn into one of those bands where you can take any song from any album and put it on another album and it fits. Basically, the same thing everytime. Mylo Xyloto just felt tired to me.

I've never seen such gross misuse of a rhyming dictionary than with this band.

At first I thought it was an article from the Onion.
That sucks since they are the band I turn to when U2 is on hiatus.
Parade is a great song.
What if they get hired to do a Super Bowl halftime show in the next couple of years?
I doubt they can stay out completely and maybe Chris Martin wants to try a solo career.

My wife likes lots of music I don't like, and visa versa. We don't bother each other with Ke$sh or Van Halen when we are with each other. If she wanted to go see Ke$sh, she can go with her sister/friends.

I think people are too harsh on Coldplay. Yea, Mylo Xyloto wasn't the best album ever, but even at their worst, they still had some integrity left even when working with someone like Rihanna. Why bag on them when you have a group like Maroon 5 who are the biggest sellouts on the planet and will do anything for a hit record?
A Rush Of Blood To The Head was one of the best albums of last decade, and while they never matched that greatness, they've been consistent.

Compare it to how Maroon 5 have completely castrated themselves and killed off any trace of rock/funk that was all over their early music so they can be a Katy Perry-type pop band for housewives. Maroon 5 sold out in the Rod Stewart type of sense where all credibility is dead while Coldplay could flirt with the mainstream and not completely scare off their original fanbase because they haven't completely severed themselves from their genre.

A hiatus?

Their new single, 'Atlas,' debuts on Aug. 26 on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. This is the first time they'll ever have been featured on a movie soundtrack.
The soundtrack will be released on Nov. 22.

Their final record? Ok
We're very pleased to report that Coldplay's seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams, will be released worldwide on Friday, December 4 via Parlophone Records.
The first single from the album, Adventure Of A Lifetime, is available from today to download and stream.
A Head Full Of Dreams is the widescreen follow-up to 2014’s Ghost Stories. The band chose not to tour that album and headed straight back into the studio to record A Head Full Of Dreams.
Revitalised, they’ve made an album that’s bursting with energy, colour and big, life-affirming moments such as the ebullient Adventure Of A Lifetime and the rocket-powered Hymn For The Weekend.
Recorded in Los Angeles, Malibu and London, A Head Full of Dreams will feature guest appearances from Beyonce, Noel Gallagher and Tove Lo.
The band are also planning to tour "early next year", after only playing a handful of low-key shows to promote Ghost Stories.
Speaking to the BBC last year, Martin suggested the new record could be Coldplay's swansong.
"It's our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it's like the last Harry Potter book or something like that," he told Zane Lowe.
