Re: The all things METALLICA thread!
w0ot Metallica is coming to Heavy Montreal this summer! and apparently it'll be a all request set list!
http://heavymontreal.com/blog/the-2014-lineup-is-here/
That's all nice and good but I'm pretty sure it'll still be the same damn old setlist we've all heard a million times since Death Magnetic came out!
I'd love to hear a NON single from Master or Justice! And as much as i love the classics like One and Master of Puppets etc i just saw them too many times and i'd love 'fresh' blood!
But i'll be there regardless!

Among those who will shake up Parc Jean-Drapeau on August 9 and 10, we find the ultimate heavy music band, Metallica, who will perform their only show in North America this summer at HEAVY MONTRÉAL. Every ticket holder will be able to send their request to the band with code provided to them following their purchase. Furthermore, it will be an all-request show, with a setlist picked by the fans!

Man, I SO want to still love Metallica and I think I would... if only they could still write a good song, had a more interesting lead guitarist, a better drummer and a singer whose voice wasn't blown out.
The Lords of Summer is just more swill from a tired band that should have hung it up years ago.

Metallica's 'Black Album' Hits 16 Million in Sales
Metallica's mega-selling self-titled 1991 album has hit a new sales threshold. The album, which continues to be the best-selling release of the Nielsen SoundScan era, has become the first album to sell 16 million copies since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991.
"Metallica" -- often referred to as "The Black Album" because of its stark cover art -- sold another 3,000 copies in the week ending May 25. That brings its cumulative total to 16,002,000.
SoundScan began tracking U.S. music sales in 1991. Its point-of-sale data was first used to compile the Billboard 200 albums chart on May 25, 1991. "Metallica" marked the group's first No. 1 that year, when it debuted atop the list.
"Metallica" became the biggest-selling album of the SoundScan era in the week ending Dec. 20, 2009, when it overtook Shania Twain's "Come On Over." Twain's album is currently in second place on the list, with 15.57 million.
"Metallica" and "Come On Over" are the only two albums that have sold more than 15 million copies in the SoundScan era. There have been 22 releases that have shifted at least 10 million. The most recently-released title to reach the 10 million plateau was Adele's 2011 album "21." (Its sales now stand at 10.94 million.)
On the most current Billboard 200 chart, "Metallica" climbs from No. 155 to No. 144, marking its 307th week on the chart. That continues to be the longest chart run of any title since the tally began using SoundScan data.
Since the Billboard 200 became a regularly-published weekly chart in 1956, "Metallica's" run is the sixth-longest. (Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" has the most weeks on the chart, with 861.)

Is Metallica’s James Hetfield the New Ted Nugent?
Ted Nugent isn't the only gun-loving hard-rocker down with hunting. Metallica frontman James Hetfield is also a gun and hunting enthusiast, so much so, he recently landed a gig narrating the History Channel's The Hunt. The eight-part series, which documents an excursion to Kodiak, Alaska, in search of brown bears, debuts on Sunday.
While that news has undoubtedly sent many Metallica mavens straight to their DVRs, some animal lovers are not amused. One such U.K.-based fan has launched a page titled "Remove Metallica from Glastonbury Festival for their support of Bear Hunting" on Facebook. As of this morning, the page had more than 15,000 likes. Launched on May 25, the page's description notes: "Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield is a big game hunter and promoter. This is incompatible with Glastonbury Festivals ideals."
Metallica's publicist declined to comment on the matter and said the band would not be addressing the controversy. And the band remains on the lineup of the vaunted British music festival.
In a 2009 interview with Guitar World, Hetfield said that he took up hunting to prove "my manhood to myself." Later in the same interview, when asked if he still hunts, he said, "Nowadays it doesn't feel necessary, killing things just to kill them. I'm not against hunting, but it doesn't seem as necessary as going 150 miles an hour in my car now."
He added he lost his taste for hunting during a trip to Siberia. "I saw a bear print and it looked pretty human [to me]. I saw something in that that didn’t make much sense to me," he explained. "We were in this four-foot high chicken shack in the middle of nowhere, four-hour helicopter ride out of this sh**ty little town, drinking vodka. There was nothing else to drink. That was the end for me."
There's no word if Hetfield has changed his mind about hunting and if his role in the History Channel series extends beyond merely serving as the narrator.
Current huntsman or not, Hetfield's love of weapons continues. In a 2013 interview with the band's Orion Festival magazine, he was asked about the gun-control debate. "I love my guns. I love that my dad handed them down to me, and I'm taking care of them," he said. "To me, though, some of the gun laws definitely don’t make any sense, but also the Second Amendment is very important to me. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. Both sides are operating on a fear base. As an NRA member, I don't think we need to be afraid that if we compromise on some things, [they] are going to change so much. I don’t want to make it easier for someone to have an assault weapon, but I also want to be able to protect my family."
As for landing the Glastonbury gig, a note on the band's website says, "Glastonbury is the largest green field festival in the world and over the forty plus years of its existence, a widely diverse group of artists have graced the stage including Paul McCartney, Oasis, David Bowie, U2, Muse, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Neil Young, Jay-Z and so many more. We're psyched and honored to be among the first hard rock bands to hit the Pyramid Stage and join this prestigious group."
While others are not, at least for now, Metallica is still scheduled to play the festival, which runs June 25-29.
